I got married in Summerville in April 2009 at Colonial Dorchester State Park, which is land that my family settled in the 1600's. Experienced some of the same challenges in terms of finding afforable reception sites for approx 150 guests. Colonial Dorchester is a beautiful park, and you can rent it for weddings - the cost is only the $2 admission fee per guest. If you are doing something in the daytime, it is a beautiful location right on the ashley river. There are bathrooms but no shelter. We were lucky it didn't rain. There is a wonderful restaurant, Elaine's, right by the park - at the intersection of Dorchester Rd and 61? Old Trolley? (I can't remember, I always get confused up in Summerville!) and I believe they would be a wonderful reception site/caterer, but I think they are too small for that many guests plus dancing. You might call and see if they can cater and/or have a recommendation for an offsite location that will meet your needs. I had my reception at the South Carolina Society Hall downtown. Fee was approx $2000, but they have chairs and tables, and it is convenient for all your drunk friends to walk back to their hotel rooms. I used The Caterer to cater there, although you can select anyone you like, including your family/friends if you have someone willing to gift you that service. The Caterer did an amazing job, and very affordable. Best wishes!
