Anyone out there had their reception at the Red Lion Inn? I love the indoor space, but Im wondering if you get the use of the pool area at all. Ive noticed that most cocktail hours tend to be upstairs in the Lions Hall, but I always imagined having a flow between the indoors and out at my wedding and the pool area is beautiful. Any other info about the Red Lion anyone has would be greatly appreciated. Im having a little trouble getting them to respond to my emails.

I am not sure about the Red Lion in, but I had my wedding reception at the Atlantica last summer and it was magical. If they are not getting back to you it is not a good sign.

Alot of places just arent good with email, but it does make me nervous. I guess I should just call what would be early morning for me- its hard planning from work in a different time zone!

Atlantica looks beautiful, but I really love the different look/feel of the Red Lions materials and space. Its much more me.

We attended an event at the Red Lion a couple of weeks ago. The space is beautiful, like a large barn with a loft all around. The food was really delicious, expecially for such a large group. The owner is difficult, but he has staff people who should get back to you. Perhaps if you mentioned a date in a message, they are already booked for then. They are booking into 2009 already! Keep trying! It's worth it. If they are booked, there is also the Barker Tavern in Scituate. It's near the water and in an old building, with excellent food.

Thanks! I didnt mention a date, but I read a few reviews that people had trouble with the events person there, but I love the space more than anywhere else Ive seen. We are flexible on the date, so hopefully that will work to my advantage. When you were there were you allowed to flow out to the pool area?

I went to a wedding and post-wedding brunch the following day at the RLI. Both were completely disorganized and service was absolutely horrible. Dinner was so late that there was hardly any time for dancing afterwards. One person at our table received his dinner a full 10 minutes before anyone else. Champagne was poured two hours before the speeches so it was flat by the time toasts were made. Water was only refilled once the entire night. Cake was served 10 minutes before the party ended so most people didn't eat it. Many guests found the steak too rare to eat. The brunch the next day was even worse. They ran out of food, plates and coffee. Cream served with coffee was spoiled and curdled! Waitstaff didn't seem concerned with replacing any of these items other than the spoiled cream, even after numerous complaints. Both events were horribly mishandled. I have never been to events so poorly run.

I got married at the Red Lion Inn and it was a total nightmare from start to finish. In 8 months there were 3 different event planners. The night of the wedding the event planner was no where to be found. They threw away my cake at the end of the night, so I don't have cake in the freezer for my first anniversary. Worst part of the night - they ran out of food!!!!! For the price people should have had 3 helpings; instead some of the guest didn't get served until 3 hours into the event. I work in the restaurant business and heard a lot of bad things about this place, but I got roped in by how gorgeous the place is. DON'T let this happen to you.

Anyone getting married at the red lion? I have been planning my wedding there for a year, and have gone through 3 event coordinators. They keep leaving, and there is no sense of coordination, obviously. I am seriously re-thinking this venue. I'm sure I'm not the only one. I would like to hear other RLI brides thoughts if your out there :) And for those of you who are thinking of getting married there, I HIGHLY recommend hiring your own personal wedding coordinator, if you can. Or get everything in writing!

The night of our wedding I saw my third event planner running into the building; but when we went to complain that half our guests did not have food to eat, she had mysteriously disappeared. The place wasn't even set up when our guests got there, and the bar hadn't been stocked yet. Everyone who gets married at the Barker Tavern raves about the place and it is only a few miles away - actually Barker is closer to the ocean as well. We had our guests stay at the Clarion on Nantasket Beach because the RLI was so expensive, and it was BEAUTIFUL. We had the rehearsal dinner there and they were much more professional and accomodating than the RLI. We had a blast at our wedding because we had an open bar and a great dj, but everything that was expected of the inn was such a let down. I felt so bad for my dad because he wrote the checks and he didn't even get to eat until the night was almost over. A quote from a guest: "Wow, it seems like the RLI just found out about this wedding yesterday!" I think that pretty much sums it up.

Ive been hearing that food and timing isnt the RLIs strong point and we are now looking more towards the Cape. The Barker Tavern is way too boring for me. Nice, yes, exciting? No. The space at the Red Lion is their biggest selling point. Its incredible, its too bad that so many people are having bad experiences.

Yeah, I was not impressed w/their food in the pub, so I asked for a tasting. It was horrible! You think they would have tried to impress. Anyway I then received a call from the new event coordinator at that time, who is now gone, and she arranged for a re-do. The second time around was amazing. While she was there she did many great things, I am not sure why people keep leaving. Maybe its just so disorganized and a high stress place to work at. Anyway, I also searched down the Cape. Some places were a lot of $ which brought me back to the souoth shore. But I recommend checking out: Wequesset Inn, Chatham Bars Inn, Coonamesset Inn, and Ocean Edge Resort. The Wequesset and Chatham Bars are only 1-2 miles from eachother. Wequesset was my favorite, then I found out $300/plate! Also check out Atlantica right around the corner from RLI if you have not done so already. Good luck in your search :)
