Hello! We are getting married next October and need some help with a venue for 70-80 people! We have been to many but finding the traditional wedding venues are not us. We also dont want to spend $150-200pp for a bad meal. Any ideas for GTA West (Oakville, Mississauga, Milton, Burlington etc) or dowtown Toronto.
We want something nice and memorable that is out of the ordinary.
We absolutely loved everything about the venue we used for our reception - The Arts & Letters Club of Toronto. It's downtown on Elm St at Young. You can take a virtual tour on EventSource.ca. It's a not-for-profit organization so the meals are priced well (~$40-75/plate) and the chef is phenomenal! We also loved the catering manager, Sarah - she was incredibly helpful and accommodating!
Best luck in your search for the perfect venue. Once you've found it, everything else starts falling into place!
I just switched my venue to the Halton Museum at Kelso conservation area in Milton for next July. It is lovely there, if you aren't the "banquet hall type". And gorgeous in the fall.... The only thing is that you may need to be flexible with your date- ask if they have any Fridays or Sundays available. They have a list of caterers you can choose from. A friend of mine just used Silver Thyme for her wedding and they were great. That's who we've chosen and they are fairly reasonable.
I had my reception at The BrazenHead Pub in Liberty Village near downtown Toronto. Don't let the word Pub scare you though. It's very nicely set up inside with great food. My guests still comment on how it was fantastic to actually go to a wedding dinner with memorable (in a delicious way) food. Seats up to 70 for a seated dinner but opens up to more if you do an hors d'oeuvres / appetizers style (the mini-fish and chips were a huge hit). Flexible menu, but I'd make sure to inquire about the minimum spending limits. When I was there it was a tad outrageous for a Saturday. The bonus part: for pictures, Liberty Village provided a great old-building style shoot location. Similar to the Distillery District without the photography licensing fee!
We booked the Steam Whistle Brewery for our reception next July. It's right across from the CN Tower and Rogers Centre. It may be a little big for your wedding but check it out anyway, you could do some decorating to make the space more intimate! You can pick your caterer from a list of 6 or 7 preferred caterers so the possibilities are endless...and delicious!! Good Luck!
I love this venue and have emailed them twice but have not gotten a reply - so thinking it's not meant to be or that they were booked during the date we requested. Thanks for getting back to me though I appreciate it!
