My fiance want to have a small wedding now and on our 5 year wedding anniversary have a big nice wedding so we can save like $8,000-$10,000 because we're paying. does anyone have any ideas for a small affordable wedding? like under $500 or atleast under $1000? he wants to not have to get married in a courthouse, and have a lil reception after. we'd like a honeymoon but aint counting on it.
We just got married in Lansing at Cooley Gardens (off 496 next to the Women's Historical Center). The park is run by Lansing Parks and Rec, and it only costs $25 to reserve the park for 2 hours. We found a local judge to perform our ceremony for us for free (judges can't accept money for performing the ceremony). We invited our family & close friends and had about 25 people there. Our reception was at Clara's Restaurant. We reserved the dining car, and they have a "club car" menu that is $14.95 per person, with drinks it was about $18 per person. Clara's allowed us to bring in our own cakes, which we got from Sam's club. We had 3 different cakes and had a ton of left overs for $40! I happen to know some people who know some people kind of thing. I ran into a judge at an event I was at, and we asked him if he could do it! I bet you could contact some local judges to see if they could perform your ceremony for you. If the judge thing doesn't work out, I've seen advertisements on Craigslist for people who can perform ceremonies as well.
