HI there!! I got married in Detroit last year. We looked at several places and I was shocked that almost all of the venues we checked out were super pricey considering we were still in a deep recession. We ended up doing ours at the Whitney on Woodward Avenue. Unique and Awesome location and they took good care of us. They let us do the wedding for $300 (not sure if their rates have changed). Food was $45 a person. So if you have 100 guests x $45 that is $4500 and $300 for the actual rental...so you would come in under $5K. However, this was July 11th, 2009 so you may want to see if their rates have changed. The Whitney also has a bar on the 3rd floor so we did an open bar as well. Hope this helps. www.thewhitney.com

Hawthorn Valley in Westland was approx 30-35 a plate. I am sure they have a place for a ceremony too due to being a golf course.

I strongly suggest the http://www.lsa.umich.edu/mbg/plan/rentals.asp Mathhaei Botanical Gardens & Arboretum in Ann Arbor. It's beautiful, in a fairly secluded area that isn't hard for guests to find. You'll save a ton of money on flowers, as you'll be surrounded by them. They are both a wedding and reception site. The kitchen is a little small, but definitely do-able. You have to have your food catered, but that also means if you really want to budget you can have family make food etc. They don't provide staff to cook or serve alcohol. So, you have to get your own bartender too, and provide your own alcohol. If you use both outside and inside for the reception area it really gives you all the space you need for 75-100 (that was around the size of my wedding). Now, this is a site I looked at but didn't book. But it was our 2nd choice. We ended up jumping the broom at The Gem Theatre in Detroit. Congrats on your marriage!

You can actually rent out the Conservatory Gardens on Belle Isle as well as the Casino building. Each is $200. Both are beautiful places and worth a look. You can then choose your own caterer at whatever budget you'd like to spend while still getting an awesome location.

Another option would be to have the wedding at the conservatory and then have the reception at Andiamos in the Wintergarden at the Ren Cen. I think you can fit this in your budget.

The Whitney is a beautiful place as well.

i found a hall is called st peter st paul is nice for 26 $ dollars a person is very nice
