Community Centers or Recreational Associations..

My wedding is coming up in a year and i have a budget of 10K (really small budget, I know). I need to find a nice place where I can have the reception. I went to a community center in Glan allen and it was very nice and under 1,000, but it looked too small. Does anyone have any ideas of a nice venue under 1,000? I am willing to take it up to 1,500.

I was a bridesmaid in a wedding where the reception was held at Maggiano's at Short Pump. It was in one of their private rooms downstairs and was really fun. Also, the family style seated dinner saved money over a plated dinner or cocktail style recption. They used a DJ instead of band to cut the cost and to take up less space, and we had a great time. Just an idea...

The Main Street Station downtown is only $1500 plus $245 for security and it holds 100 people seated or 200 for cocktail receptions. www.rmaonline.org/mainst/rentalinfo.html I know that it is not ideal but have you concidered getting married on a week day? If you have your reception on a Mon-Thurs it drops to $750. You can also check out Celebrations at the Reservoir, The Valentine History Center or Dorey Park.

Would Maggianos hold up to 150 people? I also would prefer a place where I can bring off-site catering. Thank you for the suggestions.

I would suggest going to the visitor's center - they were able to gather a list of "bids" for my business. Also, alot of other things play into your price such as the number of people you plan on having, if you are serving food, etc. Sometimes the room rental is less if you are also serving food. Also, have you considered Maymont?

Check into any of the museums in the area...
- I thought Main Street Station was pretty reasonable...
Another idea: Art Galleries are surprisingly reasonable.
My coworker had their reception a VCU in one of the ballrooms...
Also the PLACE at Innsbrook: http://www.virginiacatering.net/index.php/site/pages/the_place/
If i think of more... i will post...

Deep Run Recreation Center's Ridgefiled Ballroom: http://www.co.henrico.va.us/departments/rec/recreation-centers---facilities/recreationcenters/
-they allow outside catering (and have a kitchen so your caterer can prepare and heat food on the premises (which Main Street Station unfortunately doesn't have)
- they have tables and chairs that you can use
- the fee for a three hour block is only $250 for Henrico County Residents ($1,000 for non-residents)
- they also have an nice outside patio area just off the ballroom

You guys are great. Thank you so much for the great suggestions. I will go visit all of them and decide which one is the best. Once again, thank you all so much.

Perhaps Samis Grotto on MacArthur would be a nice place for you. It's on the North Side of Richmond, next to Dot's Back Inn.
