Any ideas about where to have our ceremony? The beach in front of the building costs an extra $600!

The Court House, sunken gardens. I hear they started taking reservations.

You can hold the ceremony inside the Arts Center. We did it under the middle arch, so I walked down the aisle towards the windows from the front door. Only issue was my husband was hard to see for me and the photographers. So I actually didn't look directly at him until I got close enough to see him. But it was beautiful and we overlooked the ocean the entire time. Although you can't control what's happening out there, so you could be looking at anything - we had a boat on the beach with caution tape on it. No idea why.

Not only does it cost $600, they don't guarantee the location either! They especially tell you that if a "city program" or other such thing is booked, such as junior lifeguard or a music festival, AFTER you put down your deposit, they'll move your ceremony to another location (imagine setting up instead in front of the barbecues at Ledbetter).

We had ours in the Mural Room at the courthouse for $240. Beaaaautiful. It can only be reserved for 2 hours, and any decorations, etc. have to be attached without tape or staples, since it is a historic room, and must be removed within that time frame after the ceremony. Also, no petals, rice, birdseed, or confetti, but we didn't really like that tradition anyway! You can always be creative with bubbles or something if you like it, or have them do it as they greet your arrival to the Cabrillo Pavilion Arts Center (where we also had our reception)! We simply left the Mural Room undecorated because it was so pretty to begin with!

Our wedding will be inside the Cabrillo Pavilion Arts Center also since renting the beach would put us over our budget. Plus the minimum rental time is 4 hrs. Who needs the beach for 4 hrs for a quick ceremony?

@Sita - sorry it might have been one of ours or our friends' boats. If it was in Feb 2008, at the time there were some big windstorms. Some of the boats out in the anchorage broke off their chains and got beached. By the time they get there, they're filled with so much sand and water that it's almost impossible to get it off yourself, so they put caution tape around it until you can hire someone to come, bust up the boat, and haul it off the beach. That happens particularly often anywhere east of the wharf, all the way to butterfly, since that's where the boats can be anchored.

That is hilarious! Everyone at our wedding thought it was for us and we were going to sail off afterwards. Where to, I'm not sure. It was gone by the time we did photos on the beach after the ceremony. The only reason I saw it was because I was standing up (obviously), otherwise I doubt I would have ever noticed. How funny that someone on this board might have owned that boat. I'm not sure if it made it into any of the pictures. I just remember looking out at the beautiful view and seeing this boat. Definitely didn't ruin anything for our wedding and gave us a funny memory. I'm really sorry you and your friends had to deal with that. I know how expensive boats are just to maintain normally!

Thank you! We have decided to hold the ceremony inside. The only problem now is table set-up. My fiance thinks it would be fine to have everyone sitting @ their assigned table for the ceremony. I think it might look tacky and would rather have every lining the aisle. If we have 200 people, it will make it difficult to set all the tables, have them pushed to the side, move them back after the ceremony and have everyone return their chairs to the tables. What to do?!

Wish I could help on this one - I only had 80 people at our wedding, so it was easy to have the wedding set up with the chairs from the tables as rows and then have everyone do a receiving line while they put the room back together for dinner. (I was told that no one does receiving lines anymore, so I didn't plan for one . . .someone should have informed all 80 of my guests who made their own impromptu line.) Anyway, I don't know how it would work with 200 people. Have you talked to the art center? They usually know - or your caterer will know. Most of them have worked that site a few times.

We are in the same boat. Has anyone just shown up with their chairs and arch and had the ceremony without reservation? The beach is public!
