hi! i got married @ the rookery june 2009 and we used alliance bakery for our cake. i really wanted carrot cake and they did such a good job. here is their website (http://www.alliance-bakery.com/). i think they may be on the pricey side (~$800 for 120 people), but all my guest comment on how good it was and they did an awesome job with the design too. my best friend used benison (sp?) bakery in evanston and i think they got a good deal, i dont remember too much about their cake, though. good luck!
We did a small cake and cupcakes from Sweet Mandy B's in Lincoln Park...so delicious and reasonably priced! If you want a large cake, check out "Bake For Me" and if you want something incredibly fancy....CakeGirls. However, be warned about cakegirls as we were married the MCA downtown and the dropped their contract with cakegirls as there were a couple situations where they NEVER made the cake...I hear they are beautiful, but not sure about reliability?
For a cake that tastes as great as it looks, I recommend Oak Mill Bakery in Niles or Vanille Patisserie in Chicago. Our wedding was at the Palmer House Hilton, which has a contract with Take the Cake. Our 5-tier cake looked BEYOND amazing, but lacked in the flavor department. CakeGirls is no longer an option because the bakery unfortunately burned down on 3/30/10.
LUTZ Bakery! 2758 W Montrose Ave Chicago IL 773-478-7785. My family has been ordering cakes for over 35 years! Here is my wedding cake, theme was 'A Perfect Pair'. I just ordered a cake for my nephew's baptism this weekend. And have ordered Bridal Shower cake for my sister Aug 09, baby shower for my sister in law Jul 09. I'll upload those pics as well.
