Kiawah reception - Osprey or Hege's??
So, I have dreamed of getting married on the Ocean Course lawn since I was a little girl - and that's been set, no problem. What I'm really struggling with is where the have the reception. The wedding is about 50-60 people. I've been thinking about having it at the Osprey Point clubhouse but Kiawah's catering is sooo expensive I'm afraid it doesn't fit into my budget too well. My newest idea is to have it at Hege's restaurant at the Freshfield's market. It's supposed to be upscale dining and they apparently have an outdoor space with a garden that they can tent. Does anyone know of this place? Have pictures? Ideas about the reception?
Thank you so much!!

Be ready to spend a pretty penny at Hege's. I looked to have my rehearsal dinner there and it was about $10,000. Crazy! They can tent the outside part but honestly it's tiny and other people can just walk in easy. I'm actually going to Kiawah this weekend because my wedding is in June and it was at the River Course. Since that just burnt down I'm starting all over at Cassique. Have you tried Mingo Point on the island??
If you want me too, I can take pictures of Hege's for you and send them back to you when I get home. Let me know if you would like that!
Oh, wow! I'm really sorry - seems a lot of people have been affected by the River Course burning down. I think it's looking more and more like I'm going to have to stay with Osprey as originally planned and use their expensive catering service...Are you working with a planner?
As for a planner, I'm doing it all on my own. The country club has a person in charge there and we have been talking but besides that, I've just been doing everything on my own. If you need a great florist, cake, photographer I have one and they are amazing. Both my sisters got married in Kiawah so we have used the vendors before. Let me know!
Hello, I live on Kiawah. Hege's would not be my first choice for a wedding reception. Business gatherings, Board Meetings, Social gatherings, family reunions...absolutely! The staff there are FABULOUS and will make your evening. in fact, I would do my Rehearsal dinner there. The patio is not such a big deal as it is long, narrow and you sit facing another building with a small courtyard off to the side. I will try to take pictures for you later. For a wedding, I would definately go to one of the Golf Courses. I say this because 25 or 30 years from now when you are gazing through your wedding photos, there is nothing like pictures on with a golf ourse in the background. Afterall, it is some of the best landscaping you will ever find. Anyway, Ocean Course, stunning but remember, always windy. Osprey, beautiful and less wind. If you have a guest who is a Kiawah Island Golf Member (Cassique and River Course) then I would see if they wouldn't mind sponsoring an event at Cassique. Beautiful Club House.
Thanks for the info! I've decided to do the Ocean Course for the ceremony and Osprey for the cocktail hour and reception. Kiawah's catering is still very expensive, but we've just had to try to cut the guest list a bit to make it work :)
