My fiancee are getting married at Robert's Redwood Regional Recreation Area, which borders Joaquin MIller park, on 10-10-10. The waterfall site at JM park is beautiful, but we decided to have the ceremony in the redwoods instead. There is a venue in the park for a reception but the Oakland Parks and Rec runs it and they do not answer phone calls. I tried to call them maybe 10 times over the course of 4 months, to view the inside of their venues, no one ever called me back. That's another reason we decided on Roberts, it's run by East Bay Regional Park district, not OPR, so we could actually reserve our site.
Congrats! I imagine 10/10/10 will be a popular date (we've been planning to get married on this date for a few years).
We are having our ceremony at the Cascades waterfall/fountain site and the Community Center at Joaquin Miller. And you are sooo right about the OPR not answering calls. It was very frustrating at first. But now that we've actually reserved and paid for everything, they are being very attentive to us.
I was hoping to find any information on vendors in the area for catering, flowers, bakery, etc. We also have lots of out of town guests so I'm looking for hotels too.
Hi Jess, I was wondering how your wedding planning was coming for 10/10/10. Only 59 more days! Well, I'm having a terrible time with Joaquin Miller Park. The person who is my contact has been MIA most of the time –– except for this past Monday when she called to tell me they made an error: they have scheduled a jazz festival at the amphitheatre at the same time as our wedding and need to move us to a whole new venue! I'm sooo upset. I'm looking in the same area and was wondering what did you find? Any help is appreciated : (
Oh my goodness.... WElll OPR is evil, that is for sure. I am SO sorry you are having such trouble. I'm not sure how many guests you are having, but check out the Sequoia Lodge, and the Leona Lodge for those dates. OR, move to a site in the East Bay Regional Parks district. Are you having your reception at the Joaquin Miller Community Center? If you are having trouble contacting OPR on the phone (WHICH you no doubt are) I found that you can always get help with a smile at the OPR headquarters in downtown Oakland, at the Frank Ogawa building. They are so nice there, its incredible! We're doing our ceremony in the Redwoods at Roberts, if you have yours after say 3 pm, you can use it after us! We have the reservation for the whole day, but if you want to use the site we could work out a fee split or something... Let me know :) Best of luck!! Jess
Hi Jess, I just took a look at your wedding website -- so cute! I love the theme, and how fun it all is. We're still waiting to hear back from OPR on if we can hold our wedding at the Cascade (we're willing to deal with the jazz music).
