Reserving Blocks of Hotel Rooms ...
Monterey, CA, USA
I am having a destination wedding in Monterey, CA area with lots of guests coming from out of town and state and everywhere I read I read to block rooms at more than one hotel with different rates (low, medium, high) ... Can someone please tell me how to do this and if you have any suggestions for hotels in the Monterey area please include them. Thanks So Much!!! Julie Bishop (Soon to be Weston : ))

There are some places to stay in all price ranges in Marina which is about 10 miles from Monterey. Sanctuary Beach Resort at the high end, Holiday Inn Express, Motel Six. Google hotels in Marina and you will get numbers and more places.
Hope this helps.

You can just call up the hotels and ask for a special rate for blocking out rooms. They might make you responsible for 80% of the rooms you block though. What I did was constantly research room rates online and published them on my wedding website. I happened to find a great rate at the Portola Resort and Spa through Travelzoo emails so I immediately notified all of my guests and we even booked a couple of them ourselves and gave them out as needed. It was easy to transfer names and very convenient since our reception was being held next door at the Monterey Marriott. It's also a great hotel to stay at, but on the pricey side. Hope that helps!

I got a room block at the Mariposa Inn and Suites. Great people to work with and very flexible. Just call the hotel and ask for sales or who you need to talk to about getting a room block. They will hold rooms for you up to a month before your wedding. Anything that they don't book under your block, they will release for public sale at that time. You just need to inform your guests about it. The rates ranged from $179 - $229. Location is great since it's across the street from the Del Monte Shopping Center. It's on Munras Avenue and kind of hidden (corner of Munras and Soledad).
The Travel Lodge http://montereytravelodge.com/home.html does not take room blocks but one of our family members booked 10 rooms all at once since the rate was pretty good...about $139/night. Location is also great since there's a Trader Joe's and a Peet's coffee across the street and walking distance to downtown and Fisherman's Wharf. All their rooms have been newly renovated and our family really liked the place. The majority of our guests did stay here. We had Welcome Bags to give to them and the front desk management was wonderful in ensuring that our guests get their Welcome bags.
I had also found a great site with great local getaway prices for hotels. www.localgetaways.com. I just sent this link to our guests. The Casa Munras Hotel was offering rates at $119/night!! Regular Queen rate was going for $179. We had about 6 couples book here and they loved it! it's also dog-friendly if you have guests that want to bring their pets. This hotel is also close to Trader Joe's and Peet's Coffee and walking distance to downtown Monterey and Fisherman's Wharf.
We looked at the Cypress Gardens Inn on Munras Avenue. This was by far the cheapest place we could find for our guests ($89/night and no two-night minimum - quite a few hotels require a two-night minimum). They also do room blocks. We took a tour of the rooms and weren't impressed with them; however, they are supposed to go through a renovation this year, I believe, so it wouldn't hurt to give them a call.
Monterey is a beautiful place! Good luck with your planning.
The Travel Lodge in downtown Monterey is a secret gem. The rooms are really nicely appointed and the price is right. If you are looking for a block of rooms, contact the owner directly, Craig Smith and tell him I gave you his name. He is trying to accommodate wedding business and would be happy to work with you.
