We are planning a casual but classy wedding in Dewey Beach for May 15, 2010 (the weekend before the "official" summer beach season begins). Our past experience in general has been that beach hotels can be really hit or miss. We obviously won't be able to stay in numerous potential hotels to 'try them out,' but we're really fearful of blocking rooms and putting our guests in a disastrous hotel. We're hoping for recommendations of hotels/motels in the Dewey area that would be suitable for blocking rooms for our guests... or for hotels that people would definitely NOT recommend. We are hoping to block rooms in a variety of hotels representing a range of price points, so any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks!
Hi- I hopt this gest to you, and I am guessing you also wrote the question about pointers with venus, but i'll answer seperately just in case.
for us, we planned our wedding in 6 months because we were so lazy for the first 1/2 of our engagement. needless to say that plus the fact that nascar was happening in dover (and people sit in traffic to stay at the beach, weird) meant most dewey hotels were booked.
now i go to dewey a bunch with my girlfriends or with other friends for party weekends but that doesn't mean i would want my guests staying at hotels i stay in that i only use to crash in at 2am! you know what i mean?
we actually reserved rooms in rehoboth (right in downtown, on/of rehoboth ave) and i think it worked out well. younger people could jolly trolley to dewey friday night and guests with kids (not many but a few) and my grandparents and such could enjoy the more family friendly rehoboth.
call the breakers hotel and suites, they were excellent for helping us. also call the atlantis inn. both in rehoboht. now the atlantis inn says they don't do room blocks, but we were able to get them to do it for us, because actually a person at breakers helped us out b/c he was friends with the atlantis managers. so give atlantis a try. sometimes i think they gave us a room block because they got to see us and realize we were responsible people, etc. and told them they would have rooms booked very quickly.
if you want you can say you were recommened by the spatafora/henry wedding from 09/20/09. the people at atlantis went above and beyond. from the outside it was nothing special but the rooms are very very clean and the management was awesome to my family (which is big and italian and probably too loud, and got treated very well at this hotel that they practically took over). most of our friends stayed at breakers suites and i really liked their rooms and space too. (we rented our own seperate place in rehoboth)
Bianca, Thank you SO much for your information - this is exactly the kind of advice we're looking for! Thanks so much for writing such a thorough response, and we will definitely follow your advice. I did write to you separately about Venus, and would love to hear about your experience whenever you get the chance. Thanks!
