we are getting married on april 24, 2010 and we already booked our chapel for our small ceremony but we want to have a big reception. we are on a very tight budget but we want to have a reception to remember for the rest of our lives. can anyone offer any suggestions? thanks!
We used The Columbus Athenaeum (TCA). They have a variety of room sizes--we had The Oak Room. I will say, my husband did a lot of negotiating with TCA so that helped us stay within our budget. It was very classy; no decorations needed so that made things easy for us. I think entertainment is key to making it memorable...the HooDooSoul Band played for us and the dance floor was full all night long! Everyone had fun!
We used the Grand Valley Dale Ballroom on Sunbury Road. The ballroom is beautiful and will hold all the people you could want to come. The ballroom covers the bar and rental of the space. You do need to get your own caterer though. That helped us stay within our budget. We had a wonderful wedding and I hope you find the perfect spot for yours! Good Luck.
On such a small budget I would maybe try to rent a park or restaurant. Goodale Park in the Short North I believe costs about $300 to rent for a few hours, there is a beautiful gazebo and a shelter house that you can rent as well. If you are doing a brunch reception you will definatly be able to save money. Do you have a favorite local restaurant that you may want to host at? Brio, Marcellas, Lindey's all offer reception areas and food packages at a reasonable price. Good luck to you!
