Hi there, I am planning my wedding for February 2014 and have my heart set on Cartagena. My fiancee is Colombian so our guest list will be half Colombian, half from the States. We're shooting for around 100 guests. He's pushing for Santa Marta because he believes it will be cheaper but I would love to convince him that Cartagena is better. Can anyone give me a ballpark number of the total cost for the complete wedding? I figure if I can arm myself with numbers, I may have a fighting chance!
thanks!
Kellie

hello Kellie,
I'm getting married in Cartagena this saturday. My budget was $30,000 and I'm getting the wedding of my dreams with 140 guests total. My fiance and I are Colombian but live in the States. We love Cartagena. Nothing compared to Santa Martha or the rest of the Colombian coast. You will love it. I recommend my wedding planner with all my heart. She is great and has managed my budget in a way I never thought of. She is not expensive at all! and will do the best for you. I'm sure.
I can give you more details after my wedding. For now, her name is Maria Angelica Cueter. Look her up in facebook and online.
Best!
Erika

Congratulations Erika! How exciting! Thanks for the information. Since we won't have as many guests (around 80 max) that may help with the cost as well. I've gotten other estimates around $15,000 for my size and scale. I'll be sure to look into Maria as well since we've not committed to a wedding planner yet.
I hope you have a fantastic wedding!

HI Kellie/ Lisa,
I got married in Cartagena last September, our wedding was amazing. All really depends on how you want your big day to be. I'm Colombian and my hubby is Slovak, we wanted something fun but not cheese. We had 57 guests including ourselves and we spent $20,000 in our wedding no counting with airline tickets, wedding gown, trip to the island, welcome bags etc. We had great food, great flowers, great live music for dinner, great dancers and great wedding planner Itala is very organized.
Santa Martha will be less expensive and can be fun as well. Cartagena is very touristic and tend to be annoyed sometimes, prices are just like Miami. You will need a good search and wedding planner for Santa Martha this is a business that is growing every year. I'm pretty sure Santa Marta will become like Cartagena. We had couple friends that went to Santa Martha after our wedding since they wanted to hike to the lost city. They loved it! Cartagena is a city but Santa Martha has a beautiful beaches and mountains so up to you. Good Luck!
Sandra.

Santa Marta Will be cheaper. Call Hotel Zuana.. I've seen weddings and white parties on their private beach and they are amazing!

Hi Kellie
I am getting married in Ctg next month, think in expenses at the same level you would do in USA or Europe
Im having a wedding for 60 people and expenses just ceremony and party related are above 15.000 EUR
As wedding destination you can not compare Santa Marta and Ctg, unless you want something right on the beach.
And be sure to get a good wedding planner and a lot of patience, things can run very slow over there.
Saying that, I am sure you can have a beautiful wed over there and your guest will love it!

Hi Kellie,
I'm getting married at the end of March. My advice is to keep your wedding planner accountable to your budget. When I was shopping around for planners, some would send me right aways budgets for $15,000 but as the planning progressed, I realize how hard was to keep that budget.

Kellie,
I agree with Colombiana's commments. When I initially sought out budgets I was given quotes in the teens for about 80 people. As time progressed that budget has nearly doubled. You might be able to do a wedding in the teens but maybe with other florist, musicians, caterers, etc than the ones most people recommend here. I am up to close to 30,000USD for 70 people. Which does not include tickets, dresses (flower, mine, or bridesmaids), grooms attire, wedding bands, invitations, house which we rented for three days in Cartagena, among other things. We havent even began to plan the welcome dinner, trip to the islands, welcome bags etc. I know one big expense that is driving up our budget is the caterer we chose is a lot more expensive than some of the other options (over 1/3 if not close to 1/2 of our budget is going to food). Also factor in expenses such as feeding all the dancers, musicians, photographers, etc at your wedding. Take into account transaction fees which will have to be paid everytime you make a deposit unless you have an acount in colombia or can work something out with a family member there as very few vendors allow credit card payments. All that being said I am very excited with the vendors I picked and expect to get nothing but 100% from them! Good luck!
