Yes, but make sure you have one that is actually going to work for you - ours did very little!!! Did not have cake cutting announced, did not have bride's family welcome everyone, did not point out favors, did not make sure bride & groom took a food basket with them as had been promised. We were starving. We made all of our selections with wedding designer ourselves! He did not stay on top of wedding license either! Offices closed early due to Irene- I think he should have known that & tipped us to it!
I found in Charleston that the prices average around $4000.00. I forums my planner, Kala Turpin at MOD Events (www.modeventscharleston.com) who has been amazing and nowhere near that price. I'm sure she can work with you and your budget, she's very insightful, knows Charleston, and is super sweet! Hope this helps.
My planner was $2500 for full service. I think you can find better prices, but I'd say between $2500-$4000 is average. You can also get a la carte planners that will go to a few vendor meetings with you. To reduce the price, you can also get a month of or week-of planner who will make sure vendors get paid, organize things, etc.
I initially really wanted a private wedding planner but ended up just using the wedding planner that came with my venue. She was wonderful and helped with all our vendor recommendations. She coordinated the whole timeline, all our tent and lighting rentals. She arranged our candy buffet. She made sure we got drinks and food to go at the end of the night. The DJ did all the announcements. I was happy I didn't end up paying extra money on a planner. I did however enjoy picking out my own invitations, decorations, signage.
Go with Candice Hilse at yoj - she is the best - I'm from Canada and planned a wedding from Toronto without any family in charleston and Candice went above and beyond and I don't speak in cliches unless its absolutely neceassary. In retrospect I would have hired her for more events that weekend - shes beyond fab
I would be more concerned with the fact that they told you that they can plan a wedding for $11000 in Charleston. If the wedding and reception are at downtown venues and you're serving food at the reception the quote is probably not anywhere close to realistic. I would agree though that $2500-$4000 is what planners charge depending on how much you want them to do.
My wedding is going to cost 20-25k and my wedding planner was MUCH less than that! I am using Rory Metz with Jubilation and she has been wonderful. I am having a destination wedding and was not able to go to the rehearsal location and she went there for me and designed the layout for the tables, met with the caterer, organized my rentals, given great vendor suggestions, coming the night before to do the rehearsal and is picking up my bouquets. My wedding in not until October so I cannot say how the services will be the actual day of...but so far so good and the cost is far less than what you were quoted!!
You can get a great wedding planner from myrtle beach for about $1500. $4000 is way high for your budget. Joe 843-340-2742
Thank you everyone for your posts, I have contacted a few of the wedding planners that you suggested and have an appt already scheduled and a couple of them have a flat rate which is far less than the $4000.00
I got married last year with out a planner which started me into being one as we were on a very tight budget however with help from family and friends, a little creativity and a lot of positive vibes we did it and I would of not changed anything.
For me as a planner I have various packages however I am more about making everyone happy more then making my pocket book happy for it is your day, your ever after and that is what I want for you.
I live in Delta BC so if you live in the lower mainland and need a planner please let me know.
I Live in Davenport Iowa and Iam a Event Planner.
Majestic Creations Event Planner. im also on fb.
11000 is a lot , I base mine on packages , however wow.. People do it differently and some over charge a d some under charge , it all depends on what the do, what they have done and how popular the are.. 15% of the total wedding cost? What is the cost of your wedding if I may ask?
Please keep in mind that weddings and wedding planners are not cheap , I wish u luck in your search.

Hi--I know this post is a bit old but I'm also wondering about whether or not it's worth the price to hire a planner! I know it's expensive, but it could definitely be worth it. I've been trying to plan a lot of things on my own, so I've been using this wedding seating chart template from AllSeated so far and it's helped me a lot. It's a free wedding reception layout tool that helps you map out where everyone will be seated online. I'm planning a wedding of 200+ and I'm finding it tricky to decide where everyone should sit. While I've found their event floor plan software to be helpful, I'm always open to any other tools or suggestions on how to save by planning things on my own. Any other tools/apps/websites that others could recommend would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!
Thanks for sharing!!
