My wedding is taking place at the Halton Region Museum in the Kelso Conservation Area. We chose it because it was unique (in an old barn with beautiful stone walls) but also because it has a whole grounds of beautiful big trees and older buildings. We were looking for something that had more character than a banquet hall or golf course and this was the perfect fit. The pictures on its website don't really do it justice...you have to visit.
The other option is Country Heritage Park. It too has a large barn (bigger than Halton Region Museum) and nice big grounds. The only downfall in my opinion is that the barn is located what seems like a big gravel parking lot so it doesn't quite have the same outdoor charm. Though it is beautiful inside.
Hope you find what you're looking for.
Congrats!! :) who , may i ask, are you using for your caterer? we are booking for sept 2012 at the barn. I would love any feed back good or bad about your experience setting your wedding up with them and the barn. any pricing that was hidden? did you get your own liq licence? thanks for your time. Have a great day!
We are using Allison's Gourmet Catering. We chose them because they are more of a family run business which means they are not very corporate and very flexible and accommodating. They seem to be interested in developing more of a personal relationship with their clients, but also maintain their professionalism.
As for the Halton Region Museum (HRM), the only 'hidden' cost I can think of isn't truly hidden because they tell you about it...the levy on the food. They charge a percentage of the total food cost with the caterer. It's a weird and complicated concept, but the caterer was able to explain it better.
Yes, we will be getting our own liquor licence and the contact at HRM is very good explaining everything we need to do.
The wedding isn't until August...so far I haven't had any concerns about our experience with the HRM.
Good luck and congrats!
