The most inexpensive reception location would be Anderson Point Park that is owned by the City of Raleigh. But it is really too small for 200 people. Raleigh Country Club is very close to Wake Med and is beautiful. Don't know the cost though. Hedingham Golf Club out near your church has a clubhouse and pool area you might consider. As I recall it is fairly small though.
My boss had her wedding held at DeeJays Event center which is down the road off new bern. Its a pretty simple place but they have a bunch of rentals available and it would be easy to make it look nice.
The museam of histor is a straight shot from your church downtown. Depending on your budget 200 people will be difficult to find a place.
Marbles Kid's Museum (used to be Exploris) is a popular and fun place for receptions these days. I have no idea what they charge but it would be easy to get to from New Bern Ave. Haywood Hall, a historic house and gardens, might be another option. It is located fight off New Bern Ave in downtown Raleigh. Its yard and gardens can accommodate 200. It is owned by a private foundation. Here is the website: http://www.haywoodhall.org/
The Wake Country Shrine Club is nice and affordable.
The Stockroom which is near the Marriott and the Royal Banquet Center on Hillsborough Street can both seat over 200. They are around 1600.00 depending on the date and time.
Thanks for all your suggestions. I did try the Stockroom but the date I wanted was already booked. I did find a place I liked. I will be using the Event's at Newton Square.
