Hi All,
I am hoping to find a venue in the Monterey area where I can supply the alcohol and maybe do a buffet style dinner. Any one have any ideas (other than Holly Farm $$$)?

Here's a pretty big list of venues which is listed on the Grapes of Wrath website: http://www.grapesofwrath.com/location.html

There is also a lovely vacation rental above Pt. Lobos http://www.vrbo.com/195868

Much depends on the size of your group and your preference of environment - mountains, ocean etc.

check out La Mirada (monterey museum of Art). thats where my wife and I did ours last year and we supplied caterers and alcohol. can handle varied sized weddings.

Gatherings is a nice little place if the group is on the smaller side. I did the flowers for the La Mirada wedding mentioned above and I can say that is was a wonderful location.

It also depends on the "style" you envision, Monterey has many beautiful locations offering different ambiances from garden settings, to museums, Victorian homes, and everything in between. One of my favorite venues for classy yet reasonable is Gatherings (www.montereyweddingsites.com), but only for a guest count of less than 80. If you have more guests than that, try either La Mirada Museum or ask the people at Gatherings about the historical mini estate in Monterey that they are beautifully restoring as a wedding venue. All three of these allow you to BYOB!

The size of your wedding guest group will make a difference. The Carmel Women's Club is available for rental. The Carmel American Legion - they have a bar as well.

The beach along 17 mile drive for the ceremony. Reception at Monterey Elks Lodge. Not sure if the Elks Lodge allows BYOB but it has a fantastic view, can hold a big group & is reasonably priced. Contact me for pics from sample weddings.

Good Luck

You'll need permits for pretty much any beach ceremony
depending on whether it's under City, County or State Parks
jurisdiction or on private property (like hotel property above
mean high tide)

The Elks space in Monterey is called East if Eden and is run by
Grapes of Wrath Catering.
