cookie table name or not?

should cookies on the cookie table be named so everyone knows what the cookies are? or should there be a list of what cookies are on the table? or just let guests just pick what they want? would like to see what thoughts there are on the cookie table--just what would you like if you were looking at many kinds of cookies? Appreciate ALL comments!!

Hi there! I have seen a ton of cookie tables and have never seen a list of what is displayed. Probably not necessary, although it might be a nice courtesy to note which ones contain nuts for any allergies.

I don't think the names of the cookies are necessary, especially since some cookies are called different names by different nationalities. For the most part, in my experience, everyone knows what they like and what they don't like.

I think the most important thing is too have the cookies attractively displayed and people will enjoy them!!!

I think it depends on what type of wedding you are having. A casual wedding wouldn't require it but I do think you should display which cookies have nuts in them. For a more elegant affair I would definitely display the cookie names (with a note about the nuts). You could get some really nice little frames from a dollar store and print a card for each one. I am doing cookie plates brought to each table. Each plate is a mixture of 5 varieties of shortbread- cocoa, lavender, cranberry, pistachio, and lemon poppy seed. I have a menu on each plate that has the name of each flavor written in a pen color to match, so cocoa is written in brown, lavender is written in purple (there is a small purple icing decoration on top of the lavender), cranberry in a red color, pistachio written in green, and lemon poppy seed written in yellow (with a little yellow icing on the cookie). I bought really pretty decorated cardboard cards from a specialty shop in Shadyside for menu cards, and my sister wrote the wording in a pretty script.

I am from Ohio, so I wasn't totally sold on the table idea. Also, I bake so I wanted to put a personal touch on the reception without baking my own wedding cake! The plates look really elegant, which I wanted for my formal reception.
