I got married last April in Savannah. My husband and I were both out of towners and were also looking to get married in a Christian church in the historic district. Our wedding planner told us that there were only 3 churches in Savannah that will allow non-member weddings. We used Trinity Methodist Church. It was around $1500, lots of room, and we had the option of using their officiant or our own. I would recommend using them. I cannot remember the other two exactly--but one would not allow us to have children in the ceremony and the other was much smaller.
Looks they have don't have a website anymore, but here's some good info on the church:
225 West President Street
Savannah, GA 31401-3609
Please let me know if I can help further.
have you tried calling Wesley Monumental? I know that they've been open to having non-members have ceremonies there.
Yes! That's the other one--Wesley Monumental! Very pretty. But that's the one that doesn't allow small kids in the ceremony.
We're getting married in Savannah this coming August, and our church allows non-members. Isle of Hope United Methodist: http://www.iohumc.com
They do have rules about photography (only from the balcony and no flash), music (no secular music during the ceremony), and children (no children under 4 in the wedding party). So if those don't fit with what you want be aware. The church added some seating, and is plenty large enough to seat our guests (250 people). They request that one of their ministers be present, but you can have your own officiant perform the service. I forget the cost for non-members (my parents are members, so we only had to pay $100), but I think it's a lot cheaper than the downtown churches...no more than $500.
Isle of Hope is gorgeous, and has a history all its own separate from the historic district of downtown. This church was actually used as an emergency hospital during the Civil War, and Wormsloe Historic Site (I'm sure you've seen pictures...it's the lane with all the old beautiful oak trees) is right down the street and can be used for pictures after the ceremony I believe.
I looked at Wesley and Trinity. Really wanted Wesley (gorgeous) but it was booked the weekends I wanted it. So went with Trinity and loved it. Also, asked the organist from Wesley to play at my wedding - Tim is his name - he was great! Ask for Melissa to officiate for you if you don't have someone. She's great.
We are getting married at Isle of Hope United Methodist in September. THey do have some strange rules about photography and such. THey are not too bad to deal with though and the church has a wedding coordinator on site. You can chose how many of her services you require but she is a wealth of information even if you want ot plan it all yourself. THe church is gorgeous. Very simplistic in its beauty. THe do have a website www.iohumc.com they have a tab for weddings and their prices are all there. Hope this was helpful!
My husband and I were married in Savannah almost two years ago - for the same reason you're choosing the beautiful city: we love it! We chose an outdoor ceremony, so looked into officiates. There are several ordained ministers for hire for off-site weddings in the city. It need not be in a church, and they will still perform a spiritual service for you. Also, I don't know what your budget is, but we were married in a square, and it was extremely inexpensive to reserve. Congratulations and best of luck!
Does it have to be at a church? The Forsyth fountain would be absolutely beautiful!
