My fiance and I are looking to get married in the Florida Keys, but everything is just ridiculously priced. Am I not looking in the right place? We only expect about 50 guests and would like to keep our budget at or below $10,000. Everyone is offering a package deal, but the quotes I have received are outrageous! Does anyone have any good suggestions on a venue that won't cost an arm and a leg?

What venues have you checked out so far?

Keep in mind that March is the peak of high season in the Keys, so it will likely be more expensive at whichever venue you choose. We saved at least $4,000 by having our wedding in mid-November at the tail end of the off season. However, I would highly suggest purchasing wedding insurance if you plan your wedding during the hurricane season/off season... actually I'd recommend insurance regardless of what time of year your wedding is.

I do think you can do a Keys wedding for $10k, but you'll need to be creative and perhaps make some compromises. Our wedding came out to be around $18k (not including rings or honeymoon), but since the wedding was at a private estate this amount also included lodging for 23 people for 4 days.

You might find this bride's blog about Islamorada venues helpful:

And you also might want to look at my caterer's webpage with possible locations around Islamorada:

It can be done and you are planning in advance- 2012- excellent, but you will definitely have to continue researching. I suggest calling wedding planners who have worked in the Keys and offer a free consultation.
But research, research. Ask lots of questions and if it does not feel right then move on. Definitely budget and stick to it.Heck put it on Craigslist. Ex- budget a DJ for $300.00 and then place it on Craigslist, same for photographer etc. You will be amazed how many reply. For 50 guests, a nice restaurant would be nice and probably very accomodating.
Wish you much luck from here until Infinity.
