I would suggest the Cabrillo Pavilion Arts Center at 1118 East Cabrillo Blvd. Its a beautiful building right on the beach. Can't beat the location or the price. You could also have your wedding there or better yet, use the beach right in front of the facility. Beautiful! Its run by the Parks and Recreation Department. Been to lots of nice events and weddings there. Looked there for my reception site but it was already booked. I don't think you need a wedding coordinator. The facility I eventually used required one for the day, but I did all of the work up to the day of the wedding. Depends on how much support you have from friends, your bridal party and your family. It depends on how many people you are planning to have at the wedding and reception. Our wedding was VERY small (14people total), but intimate and a lot of fun. The venue we chose was the courthouse tower, which is free, first come first serve...but our alternative plan in case of inclimate weather was the mural room, which would have been free, if last minute planning. If you want to reserve the mural room, it costs $150. We also hired a trolley which took us around to everything, which enabled us to bring drinks/snacks on board and we didn't have to worry about drinking and driving etc...We had our reception dinner in the "Cork room" of Bouchon which is free as well, with minimum spending of $750, which is very easy for a small wedding party. The wedding cake and groom's cake was delivered by Henning's cake directly to Bouchon, the best cakes I've ever tasted and VERY affordable.
We did not use a wedding planner at all...and we can also recommend a photographer that was very good and a LOT cheaper than most other professional photographers in Santa Barbara.

I did get married at the Cabrillo Art Pavilion and it was beautiful. I couldn't believe it - the transformation was so simple. And I loved walking down the aisle looking directly at the beach. We had 80 people, so it was kind of small - they can handle more. If it's a night wedding, I would recommend lighting up the wooden beams - they have pictures. I've also heard good things about Fess Parker if you can afford it - I think they have the outside pavilion if it's nice out. I would definitely hire a day of coordinator - wish I had done that. I didn't want my family working it and some things slipped through. Talk to Pure Joy Catering and they can give you some suggestions - and they have wonderful food! Best bakery is TC Bakery in Thousand Oaks - you will never have better cake or cheesecake. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more info.
We chose Events by Stella Mare's by the golf course off Las Positas and loved it! We did a lot of searching before choosing our venue, but just couldn't find the value and ease that Stella Mare's provided. Most people use it for the reception only, but we had both there. The ceremony on the patio worked well for our 85 guests. And we had a small wedding party, which is probably best for the space since it is narrow. The great thing about Events by Stella Mare's is that they handle everything: no separate caterer (their food is delicious), no rentals necessary (tables, linens, flatware, glasses, candles, chairs, dance floor, etc is all handled by them and if you want extras they'll rent them for you so you don't have to bring them in), they do all of the setup AND cleanup, the atmosphere is charming so you don't need much for decoration, and it is very inexpensive compared to other venues with the same or similar service. As is probably true regardless of the venue, the time flew by. They are very flexible with everything, including the end time. The staff is prepared to stay until 1am for evening events in case you want to extend your end time...just be prepared to pay extra.
You don't need a wedding coordinator there. However, if you are looking for one I recommend Dream It Events from the bay area. They did our day of coordination and we were very happy with them! The Stella Mare's event coordinator is fine, but you don't get much help with the ceremony part and we didn't feel like we had the special attention leading up to the wedding that a wedding coordinator can provide.

This place is an awesome, awesome, awesome place for a ceremony, reception & lodging. 1221 La Vista, Santa Barbara. It's big house in Santa Barbara with dramatic city views, a pool & an in-ground trampoline. I've photographed 2 weddings there & both couples were really, really happy with the venue. It was a TON of fun.
