Question:
Hi Brooke and Sean!
I am looking to get married at St. Paul's Catholic Church next year. I am a little concerned about the photography however, because they don't allow the photographer to move around during the ceremony, and also because the lighting is rather dim and no flash photography is allowed. I cannot find any photos of weddings at St. Paul's online to refer to. Would you all be so kind as to email me some of your photos (or direct me to a webpage if you have them posted), or at least give me your opinion as to how your wedding photography at the church came out? Who did you use?
Also, I have never been to a Catholic wedding (my fiance is Catholic, but I am not). During the ceremony, did you face the priest for most of it (your backs turned to the guests) or did you face each other (which is what I'm used to seeing in non-Catholic weddings)?
I would REALLY appreciate any input you can give me! :)
~Amber
Response from the couple:
I LOVED St. Paul's. I just think it is such a beautiful church inside and out, and the aisle is a nice long one to enjoy your entrance. Also, their organist is very good and was a great help when choosing music. We sat up on the altar during most of the service. There is a lot of up/down in a Catholic wedding. Like I said, most of it was spent with us sitting facing the congregation. One part had us with our backs to the guests, but I believe we were facing everyone while repeating our vows. I liked the long ceremony - it gave you time to enjoy it.
Our ceremony pictures turned out very well. Have you hired a professional photographer? If so, maybe he/she has worked there before (I know mine had) and they might have some photos that they took at previous weddings. Our website with posted pictures isn't active anymore, but I could email you some if you feel comfortable giving me your email address.
Hope this helps, and congratulations!
Response:
Oh yes that is very helpful! Someone was telling me that our backs would be facing the guests for most of the ceremony, so it's nice to hear that people could actually see you for most of yours. I haven't contracted with a photographer yet, but I have one in mind. He has not shot at St. Paul's before, but he has shot in other churches and says he has a special lens he uses for those low-light situations.
I would love if you could send me some of your church photos so I can see how they came out. My email is [email hidden (log in to view)]. Also, what photographer did you use? Did you just have 1 or several and where did you choose to place them in the church throughout the ceremony (since they must remain stationary)?
Thanks so much for your help!
