Blue Star is a great spot for handcrafted beer and yummy burgers. It's relaxed, with a cool atmosphere. Service can be slow at lunch, so beware.

Boudro's

Boudro's has top-notch Southwest fair. It can be pricy and crowded, but it's one of our favorites. If you're looking for a nice place to eat on the River, this is our recommendation. Reservations: 210-224-8484

Casa Rio

Best Tex-Mex on the Riverwalk. It has good Mexican food at prices more reasonable than most Riverwalk restaurants. Enjoy a seat under one of their brightly colored umbrellas along the River.

China Latina

China Latina is another Southtown favorite, especially because downtown lacks decent Chinese food. It has good, cheap Chinese and Sushi. Beware of workday lunch crowds.

County Line BBQ

If you're looking for great Texas BBQ downtown, County Line is where to go. It's on the River, so you can enjoy your food outside.

Jim's Restaurant

Anonymous and I spent so much time at Jim's in highschool that I'm surprised he didn't propose there! It's a local diner with a relaxed atmosphere, cheap home cookin', and great breakfast.

Madhatters

Madhatter's is a hip tea and sandwich place in King William. It's got great atmosphere with a cute courtyard and mis-matched sofas. My favorites are the red pepper bisque, the turkey-avocado samich, and the cranberry-hibiscus tea.

Paesano's

Forget what I might have said before - Paesano's is my favorite restaurant in San Antonio. This Italian restaurant may be on the expensive side, but one bite of the Shrimp Paesano will prove to you that it's worth it! Reservations: 210-212-5346

Rosario's

Rosario's Mexican food attracts locals and tourists alike. It's a fun place with cheap food. Expect loud chatter, a busy bar and possible live music. I recommend the Enchiladas Verdes and the margaritas!

Schilo's Delicatessan

Schilo's is a San Antonio establishment known for its home-brewed root beer and split-pea soup. It's on the River, so if you're on the Riverwalk at lunch, check it out.

Sushi Zushi

Sushi Zushi has a nice atmosphere and decent sushi, but can be pricy.

Taco Haven

A great place for authentic tacos (and other good food, too!). This is one of my favorite places for breakfast tacos. The Torres Special Taco is the best meal you'll ever have for under $2.

Bar America

Bar America is one of our favorite local hangouts. It's a dingy, dark hole-in-the-wall but it has undeniable charm. It only serves beer and only accepts cash, but with beers for $1 it's usually not a problem!

Durty Nelly's

Durty Nelly's is a fun Irish pub on the Riverwalk. It's got a piano bar, peanut shells on the floor, and a great beer selection.

Howl at the Moon

A great place for lots of fun, this piano bar is located on the River. It's a great location for people of all ages, as long as your willing to put up with a crowd. Beware of cover charges.

Joey's

Joey's is a fun place for pool, shuffle board, and beer-drinking. It's located around several other bars known as the "South St. Mary's Strip." If you're around there, skip the Mix but try out Bombay Bicycle Club.
