Ceremony

Sacred Heart Cathedral
1111 Pierce St
Houston, TX 77002, US

I'm giving them two stars - trust me, I'm tempted to give them one star - but we did get married there and I guess that is the bottom line. There are several things that I did not like/appreciate. One, there is no wedding coordinator on the day of the wedding. This is horrible! It would really help if there was one. Two, I planned our wedding from out of state and it was nearly impossible to get a hold of their 'wedding coordinator' via phone and email. I had to literally scream to get return calls or my emails answered. Three, the person in charge of the rehearsals the day before the wedding was SO RUDE. My husband and I live in NYC and we can tolerate rude, but this guy surpassed that. He was dressed like Farnsworth Bentley and I assume that's who he though he was. There was NOT one nice bone in this person's body and it was very embarrassing to our out of towners who attended the rehearsal. Four, we were literally yelled at and kicked out of the Church after the ceremony...we had to take pictures outside!! The Church books so many weddings on Saturdays that they basically force you out. It was horrible...as soon as the ceremony was over, they opened the doors to start setting up for the next wedding!! The people working there to setup the next wedding were so very rude - at one point my Dad pulled the contract out which said we have the Church for two hours. We stayed within that time frame but they cut us short by a half an hour...they wanted us out of there! And I guess that would be fine, but how they handled it was absolutely horrible. They were yelling at us!! If I had to do it again, I would not get married at this Church - I would have picked another one. The sad thing is, I'm actually a parish member of this Church and now my view of them is completely different.

Reception

The Alden Hotel
1117 Prairie St
Houston, TX 77002, US

The Alden did a great job - however it was not as easy as it turned out to be. I had three different coordinators and if you can believe it, they switched coordinators on me twice within a month. This gets very frustrating when trying to plan a wedding, as you have to tell them over and over again what was already decided on. I ended up working with upper management and they treated me, my family and guests like royalty. The food was great and they were very hospitable. The only other downside would be that there were some invoicing problems, but that got taken care of immediately. Overall, I think the Alden did a spectacular job and I would recommend having your reception there!!

Restaurant

The Grotto
4715 Westheimer Rd
Houston, TX 77027, US

The Grotto was AMAZING! We had such a nice rehearsal dinner...it was about as nice as our reception!! My In-Laws planned this dinner and the Grotto was on top of their game! The food was delicious and the service was perfect. We love the Grotto (and this was also the location of our first date) and will continue to go there!
