Rehearsal Dinner @ Kid Shelleens

"Kid Shelleen's Charcoal House and Saloon was established in 1983. A relaxed, casual atmosphere with an open grill, great food, oval bar, and outdoor patio enters into this successful formula. Kid Shelleen's became a trendsetter in a largely unknown neighborhood of Wilmington, Delaware that now boasts many bars, restaurants, and upscale shops. The patio is always open (weather permitting) and can provide just the right atmosphere for that (all too short) Lunch break."

St. Hedwig's Polish Festival
701 S Madison StWilmington, DE 19801
"Our Festival began 52 years ago in the parking lot of our school an elementary school rich in Catholic and Polish Traditions. Our festival consisted of arts and crafts and of course our wonderful Polish Homemade foods. Our Festival was on a Saturday and Sunday and held in September just after school started. About thirty five years ago we started a tradition called Seafood Under the Stars. This seafood tradition was held at the end of September and was located behind our Historic Church in the parking lot of the rectory. Over the last 40 years we have had the Polish Kitchen, an organization of hard working parishioners dedicated to preparing all the Polish foods we use at various fund raisers within the Parish of St. Hedwig Church located in Gulcz Hall at the church. Over twenty Five years ago we combined the traditional Festival, Seafood Under the Stars, and The Polish Kitchen, to form the Polish Festival that was held in September. We now had an all new Festival for the times including The Polish Kitchen, the new Seafood Cabaret, Which included at large tent with Polish Bands. Over twenty years ago we expanded the Festival to include a Midway and closed a city street and placed rides, games and Midway styles foods. The Midway foods also included the school cafeteria Which was called the Huskie Café. This entire area was run by volunteers from our Home and School Association This was the tradition until 2004. We also moved our date to the second week of May. In 2005 we made the decision to move our venue a few blocks from the church to the Riverfront Wilmington Complex to increase the size of our event and better serve our patrons. Our 2005, 2006 & 2007 years at the Riverfront were a great success and we will continue with the new tradition at the Riverfront Complex. In January, 2007 a sad decision was made to close our school after more than 100 years. In an effort to help sustain the rich tradition of our parish and youth groups we will once again continue the tradition of the Polish Festival for all to enjoy."
