"Our wedding exceeded our greatest expectations in every way. We had tons of events all over the Portland area to introduce all of our out of town guests to our home. The only warning I have is to beware of the weather for an outdoor wedding in Portland of the summer. Make sure you have alternatives available in case of rain, it will save you anxiety and a soggy wedding party. We lucked out and had the most beautiful evening to cap our weekend."

Your wedding looks like it was amazing. I was wondering how difficult it was to pull off the Saturday picnic. We are considering a picnic for our "rehearsal dinner" but I'm a little worried about the logisitics and being bogged down details. How did that work out for you?

Response from the couple:
The picnic was very easy because our in-laws basically hosted the entire thing, so we did very little aside from getting the grill available for them from a friend and reserving the park space for that day. They went all out and brought in tables and chairs along with all the food and drinks, but I don't think that's necessary depending on the group and its size.

I think that you could easily pull it off yourself though if it's going to take the place of your rehearsal dinner. We were overly ambitious in having an open house at our apartment the night before (definitely not recommended as it requires that not only do you cook and clean, but also welcome guests left and right) and we also had a morning tour of Portland that we were leading ourselves. It was also a bit of a tight squeeze to run from the picnic, to home to get ready, and then to our rehearsal dinner.

However, all that being said, if you can wrangle some wedding party members or family to help you with the picnic prep, you will be in much better shape.

I'd be happy to offer any other advice if you need it. The picnic was wonderful because we could have as many people there as possible, and there was something for every age. We had a playground right there, a basketball courts, and we had also arranged a bocce ball tournament that was great.

"We had our picnic at Wallace Park on the lawn of Chapman School. We had to reserve through Portland Parks and Recreation and then we took over from there bringing in tables, chairs, grills and food. It's what you want to make of it, and we had a great time. Playground and basketball court and even a softball diamond. Talk about inexpensive and easy, this was it."
