MARIO AND REBECCA'S WEDDING
May, 2009 in Portland"Getting married in Portland was amazing! Old Port provided great scenery, activities, backdrop for pictures, and restaurants and lodging for guests. We sacrificed very little and only ended up spending around $12K for a wedding with about 65 guests. We were both very happy!"

"While they tried hard, the event manager wasn't really on top of things during the planning process which caused a lot of distress. The space was great, perfect for our 60 something guests. The music was not set up to play through all spaces though - very dissapointing. Main meal - which we served as a buffet - was good, not fantastic, but good. Appetizers, from what I can tell (we weren't there while they were being passed, but my bridesmaid left me a plate) were ok. And the way they were displayed - not good."

"Experiences varied by guest. The rooms are in various stages of renovations and some were downright dirty. My room that I stayed in the night before the wedding with one of my bridemaids was gross. Staff was very helpful though and didn't seem to mind being overrun by Greeks!"

"Mario and I visited this casual bar on our vistin in February - it was awesome! Low key, cheap fried food and strong drinks, and a great juke box - what more can you ask for? Oh! They also had a Wii set up for patrons to play."

"This lighthouse has a white conical tower, a charming Victorian keeper's house with a rambling red roof and eyebrow eves on the porch, a commanding setting at the southwest entrance to Portland harbor, and beautifully landscaped grounds. Commissioned by George Washington and dedicated by the Marquis de Lafayette, it is the state's oldest lighthouse and one of its most beloved, with a well-appointed museum in the former keeper's house. It sits in Fort Williams Park, off Shore Road in Cape Elizabeth. Parking is free although there's a small charge for the museum. Many Casco Bay boat tours pass this light; there is also a bus tour to the lighthouse."

"Rebecca remembers going here as a kid. Victoria Mansion is an outstanding example of nineteenth-century American architecture and design. With remarkably intact original interiors and decorations, it survives as a unique example of the princely palaces created for America's wealthiest citizens in the pre-Civil War era. Also known as the Morse-Libby House, the Mansion was built between 1858 and 1860 for Ruggles Sylvester Morse and his wife, Olive Ring Merrill Morse. A native of Maine, Morse made his fortune as the proprietor of luxury hotels in New Orleans during the 1850s. His experience as a hotelier shaped his taste in design, and when the time came to build a summer home, he sought out some of the nation's leading designers including Gustave Herter and Henry Austin."
