Cheers Boston (Formerly Bull & Finch Pub)

Founded in 1969 as the Bull & Finch Pub, the original inspiration for the setting of the TV show Cheers, was a favorite neighbor-hood bar. In the summer of 1981, a couple from Hollywood--Mary Ann and Glenn Charles--happened into the Bull & Finch during their search throughout Boston for a neighborhood bar to copy for their new TV series. They enjoyed the warm, cozy atmosphere that this Beacon Hill neighborhood pub provided and they decided to take pictures of the interior and exterior to take back to Hollywood. Upon their return, they gave the pictures to a set designer who utilized all of the architectural elements of the Bull & Finch and designed the set that was built on Paramount’s lot on Stage 25. They then cast the show, including all of the actors and actresses that we have come to know and love, shot the pilot, sold the pilot to NBC, and the show premiered September 30, 1982.

The North End

Anonymous and Anonymous LOVE to eat in the North End! The North End is the oldest neighborhood in Boston. It is a delightful labyrinth of narrow streets and exotic marketplaces. Known for its 87 Italian restaurants and bakeries, the North End is also the home to the Old North Church and the Paul Revere House.

Union Oyster House

The Union Oyster House is the oldest restaurant in Boston and the oldest restaurant in continuous service in the U.S. — the doors have always been open to diners since 1826. Union Street was laid out in 1636, but there are no municipal records documenting the Oyster House's date of construction. All that is known is that the building has stood on Union Street as a major local landmark for more than 250 years. The Kennedy Clan has patronized the Union Oyster House for years. J.F.K. loved to feast in privacy in the upstairs dining room. His favorite booth "The Kennedy Booth" has since been dedicated in his memory.

Boston's Museum of Science

Within this museum are a planetarium, an IMax movie theater and a two-story Van de Graaf generator, capable of producing 2.5 million volts of electricity. These and the hundreds of other exhibits make this museum one of Boston's top attractions. Hatching chickens, a comparative brain exhibit and a math and statistics room are educating and entertaining. There is a food court, with a Sunday brunch buffet and Friday night cocktails.

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

At the beginning of the 20th century, heiress and philanthropist Isabella Stewart Gardner built a home modeled after a 15th-century Venetian palace. Gardener was a great patroness of famous artists, such as James Whistler and John Singer Sargent. She also acquired European masterpieces, and her palace is now a museum filled with works by Titian, Matisse, Rembrandt, and Raphael. The courtyard is an oasis in any season, filled with beautiful plants and flowers. Admission: adults $10-11, seniors $7, college students (with ID) $5, children (under 18) free. Museum of Fine Arts

First opened in 1876, this art museum is one of the best in the United States and has sponsored impressive shows on Monet and John Singer Sargent. The "MFA" has outstanding collections of Impressionist art, early American art and artifacts, and Asian and Egyptian art. The museum also hosts lectures, musical performances and films. Admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors and college students, and $6.50 for children 7-17

Newbury Street

After Anonymous proposed, he took Anonymous to Piattini for a delicious celebratory dinner. The most fashionable street in all of Boston, this beautiful street lined with Brownstones and shops on the ground level is definitely a place where you should find yourself during your visit to Boston. A very trendy street with high end shopping and dinning, you're sure to find everything and anything you little heart desires. You can also just take a stroll, stop in at one of the many cafes and bars and just people watch.

Quincy Market / Faneuil Hall Marketplace

Lots of restaurants, bars and shopping. Quincy Market, also called Faneuil Hall Marketplace, is a great place to stop for a refreshment break during your walk of the 2.5-mile Freedom Trail in Boston. The indoor-outdoor market is home to dozens of restaurants and food vendors. In 1742, Boston’s wealthiest merchant, Peter Faneuil, as a gift to the city, built Faneuil Hall. The edifice was home to merchants, fishermen, and meat and produce sellers, and provided a platform for the country's most famous orators. It is where colonists first protested the Sugar Act in 1764 and established the doctrine of "no taxation without representation." Firebrand Samuel Adams rallied the citizens of Boston to the cause of independence from Great Britain in the hallowed Hall, and George Washington toasted the nation there on its first birthday. Through the years, Faneuil Hall has played host to many impassioned speakers, from Oliver Wendall Holmes and Susan B. Anthony to Bill Clinton and Ted Kennedy, always living up to its nickname, "The Cradle of Liberty."

The tour is open to visitors of all ages. Proper ID is required in order to sample beer.

Fenway Park

Though generations have come and gone, Fenway Park remains, much like it did the day it opened on April 20, 1912. Visit the park where the Babe pitched, The Kid hit, Yaz dazzled and Manny and Ortiz still thrill young fans today. Soak up the rich history; hear the echoes of the past. Touch the Green Monster, imagine being one of the "Knights of the Keyboard" as you see the view from the Press Box, visit the State Street Pavilion Club before strolling around Fenway Park. Tours now leave from the Souvenir Store across Yawkey Way hourly seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tour hours on Sundays are 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Harvard University

Established in 1636, Harvard is the oldest and most famous of all American universities. Every year, thousands of tourists make the short trip from Boston to Cambridge to walk across Harvard Yard, rub the foot of the John Harvard statue for good luck, as the student tradition goes, and admire its most notable buildings such as Massachusetts Hall (1720), Harvard's oldest building, the Widener Library, named after Elkins Widener who died on the Titanic in 1912 and, with over 3 million books, the third largest library in the US, Holden Chapel, and Memorial Church. You can go on a guided tour of the campus or better yet, just roam around on your own and pretend for an afternoon that you're a Harvard student!

The Christian Science Center and Mapparium

Among the many honors Boston calls its own is the world headquarters of the Christian Science Church. The Christian Science Center is an imposing office complex designed by I. M. Pi. Established in Boston by Mary Baker Eddy in 1879, the Christian Science Church Center is also home to one of the city's most fascinating and most visited attractions - the Mapparium, located within the Christian Science Publishing Society. A thirty-foot stained-glass globe room in lobby of the Christian Science Publishing Society gives one an "inside view" of the world. Standing on the thirty-foot glass bridge, which traverses the diameter of this large sphere, visitors can virtually be encompassed by the world. From pole to pole, you can journey through and explore the correct proportion and relationship of the earth"s land and water areas. The colors of each of the 608 stained-glass panels mark 1935 political divisions, land, and water and are brightly illuminated by some 300 lights. Viewing clocks arranged on the equatorial meridian allow you to check time changes throughout the world. A tour of the enormous room can be completed in under a half-hour, but most are so impressed they lose all track of time. The Mapparium offers these unique perspectives and more and is the only one of its kind in the world.
