ANGE & STEVE'S WEDDING
October, 2009 in Jakarta, Indonesia
"Our wedding weekend was stressful, yet fun. It was a task trying to coordinate our out-of-town guests and making sure that they have things to keep them entertained during the weekend. The weekend started when the first guest arrived at 10AM on the Friday (they came from all over the world - San Francisco, Taipei, Tokyo, Sydney, London, Vancouver, Toronto, Hong Kong and Shanghai and therefore arrived at different times). Having to organize my four chauffeurs to rally to and from the airport and to take these guests to their respective hotels is a big task, one which did not end until 9PM that Friday.
We had a reception dinner at Kembang Goela restaurant, a traditional Indonesian food served in a Dutch colonial-style house, then followed with the VIP tables at Dragonfly, one of the 'most happening' clubs in Jakarta (given the club scene in Jakarta - that's a pretty big feat).
On Saturday, we treated our out of town guests to a dimsum lunch at Crystal Jade at Grand Indonesia, subsequent to which the ladies went to the Ritz Carlton Jakarta for a 90-minute spa and manicure / pedicure. The rehearsal dinner on Saturday was a 10-course Chinese banquet for 80 guests at No Signboard Restaurant - guests feasted on mixed bbq appetizer, peking spare ribs, shantung chicken, steamed whole bass with ginger and shallot, and of course the dish that earned this place a spot in the list of 30 dishes worth traveling for, by Travel and Leisure - the Singaporean Chili Crab.
The wedding day started at 5AM, where the bridesmaids and I were driven to Kleo Salon @ Melawai, the brainchild of Susi Turino, bridal make-up artist extraordinaire (no joke - she is the best bridal make-up artist in town and gets booked up a year in advance, despite her steep fee of $1,800). Then a Chinese tea ceremony at my parents' residence started at 10AM, after which lunch is served. Everyone then proceeded to the Chapel of Canisius College for the nuptial mass in the early afternoon. The reception was an affair of 1,200 at the Ballroom of the Dharmawangsa hotel, made beautiful by event decorator Friend & Friends and floral designer Zinnia Emerys. The reception included a live band, open bar, dessert buffet and various action stations serving a variety of Chinese and Indonesian food."

Jakarta,, Indonesia"The best there is out there. We are big on photographers that are able to capture the moment instead of going for the cliche, cheesy and stiff poses. There was no question about it - we did not even look anywhere else and it was a given that we have to go with these guys. Check out the pics: http://www.facebook.com/marsio?ref=ts#/album.php?aid=116753&id=11200042193&ref=mf"

Jakarta,, Indonesia"The missing star is because they didn't end up using the song that we wanted for our Same-Day Edit. We are not big on slo-mos and there was a bit too much of that in our SDE - probably the reason why they weren't able to use Cliffs of Dover (by Eric Johnson) as the song. That being said, everybody loved our video and it really did capture the first half of the day for the guests at the reception to see. The crowd loved it, so did the friends and family who couldn't make it to the wedding. Below is the link to the HD version of the SDE. http://vimeo.com/7108865"

"If shopping is Indonesians' favorite sport, Plaza Senayan is the equivalent of the sport stadium. Oddly enough, it IS located right next to Gelora Senayan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bung_Karno_Stadium), where various international sporting events including the 1962 Asian Games have taken place. And just like any other self-proclaimed higher-end shopping malls, this, too, has its own entertainment centers with bars / restaurants / cinemas."

"Open in 2006, Senayan City has successfully gives the nearby Plaza Senayan the run for its money. This shopping complex is *h.u.g.e* and, in true Indonesian fashion, is a one-stop-shop for everything: food, entertainment, and shopping."
Restaurant:
Cafe Batavia

"An excuse to visit Taman Fatahilah (Fatahilah Square), part of the old historic Jakarta town. This is not one of the come-and-go type of establishments so commonly found in Jakarta - it's been around for years and is still beautifully decorated with the colonial-style pieces of furniture and (random) old framed photographs."
Restaurant:

"This restaurant specialises in traditional Indonesian home cooking, although you will also find Dutch-influenced cuisine. Make sure you ask about the chillies, because traditional foods tend to be fiery."

"A perfect way to spend the day without having to stress out about the infamous Jakarta traffic: get a tan by the outdoor pool, enjoy the indoor jacuzzi and pool, work out at the gym, pretty up at the salon/ barber shop, have a massage/spa session, or catch up on some readings at the Dharmawangsa's Bimasena Club."
Things To Do:
Kemang District
Jl Kemang SelatanJakarta,, Indonesia
"Kemang District is filled with expatriates, possibly earning it the status of the hippest and most westernized area of Jakarta. The area is full of chic shops, trendy cafes, restaurants, and art galleries. Traffic can make the area extremely tough to navigate especially during weekends - a way to get around it is to plan your stay IN Kemang, either at Hotel Grand Kemang or the new Kemang Icon."
