Hi there! Forsyth Park made a gorgeous background for our reception. It was definitely the highlight of the wedding. The reception was at dusk and into the evening so the lights on the fountain made a beautiful centerpiece. Our reception area was setup on the nort side of the fountain and then down the tree-lined walkway. Here are some thoughts that you might find helpful. 1) USE a wedding planner!! That was the BEST decision I made regarding my wedding. It takes all the stress out of the planning and the one I used, Karen Moore at Redefining Moments was absolutely fabulous. Seriously, you should really look into it. It's not as expensive as you think
2) There are a lot of things to think about when having an event in a public park. I did not do any of the logistics since I had a wedding planner, but there are elements that she thought of that I didn't, like the bathroom
3) I used Paul Kennedy Catering for my food. The food was great, but they did fall short on some promises and service. I could only partially recommend them for that reason. I believe they cooked all the food off-site and transported it down. They had a whole compound area with food setup. I never noticed it though.
4) Bathrooms! Here's the thing--there is no middle range options. Either you get a portapotty or you get a Royal Restroom (which I would highly recommend). It comes on a trailer, has water, AC, lights, etc. It's like a real restroom on wheels. I got lots of compliments on the bathroom! :) The cost was around $2K though.
5) Another element to having our reception in the park was the fact that you DO need security. We had 8 off-duty police officers hired at the cost of around $2,000 in cash. At first, I thought that was a bit much, but as it turns out you really DO need that many. There can be lots of people in that park and we even had a few people try to get in our reception, so you really need the security. Plus, it's required by the City of Savannah.
6) Also, parking at Forsyth can be hectic. There are no parking lots for the park guests so it's all side-street parking. I was married at a church downtown and had my guests brought over by the trolley.
