Congratulations! And, great choice for your wedding ceremony. Ours was beautiful - Savannah is one of our favorite cities (we actually live in Michigan), so we had a destination wedding.
Regarding Whitefield Square: Have you reserved it yet? The city only makes that square available every OTHER weekend, to reserve for weddings, so you'll want to make sure that particular square is available for your chosen date. We had a back-up choice, just in case.
An idea: We did a champagne toast in the square right after the wedding (the city allows open drinking, as long as you're not selling). We and our guests loved this touch, but, be warned, we were required to pay for two police patrols, instead of the mandated one, because of the alcohol.
We had our reception at Paula Deen's The Lady and Son's - my matron of honor also had her reception there. My guests, and hers, LOVED this choice! Their prices are extremely reasonable, and you get SO MUCH food. And, they do allow other vendors to decorate and set-up stuff (the cake (even though they also supply desert) and florist). They only reserve for a maximum of three hours - which was MORE than enough time for us - we even had time for some dancing (we provided our own small radio). They provide a private room - very pretty - and your own wait staff, as well as alcoholic beverage package choices. The Lady and Son's was a big hit for our wedding, and we were very happy with our choice. One of the neatest things about the whole day was pulling up as a wedding party (Mark and I were actually in a carriage), in front of about 400 people - we were a bit of a tourist attraction - and we and our guests were able to walk right in.
As far as a back-up for Whitefield Square, we had a few (it DID rain, by the way): (1) postpone as long as we were willing, (2) hold the ceremony before dinner in our banquet room at the Lady and Son's, or (3) go back to my matron-of-honor's house in Pooler, where we held a welcome dinner on Friday night, so our guests were already familiar with its location. We went with option one. We set a time for how long we were willing to wait - with set-up and everything, and made it. You COULD rent tents from your chair rental place, but we just took our chances and decided not to! It did end up being only fifty degrees that day (and ours was only one day after your date (time-of-the-year wise)), so warn your guests to bring sweaters. I was prepared with a shawl and had them for my bridesmaids. But the days before the wedding it was 75 degrees - so you COULD have slightly sweaty groomsmen.

Since I planned a destination wedding, and did almost all of it myself, I did A LOT of research, and did A LOT of on-line ordering and finding.
