"Salsa Brava is a Mexican restaurant owned by the same gentleman who owns it's next-door neighbour, Slayton's. They do great Queso, good table-side guac, and have a dish that's bland enough that Anonymous enjoys it, while Anonymous gets his spicy on."

"Slayton's is a great barbecue joint in our neighbourhood that we visit occasionally. They do great wings and good meats. This is where Anonymous and I watched the last game of the NHL finals this year."

"Agia Sophia's is one of Anonymous's favourite haunts in the Springs. A coffee shop run by Orthodox Christian ownership, the upstairs is also a bookstore, which comfy couches and free wi-fi. The calm atmosphere and great staff make this a wonderful place to spend and afternoon reading and relaxing (or wedding planning!)"

"The Wisdom Tea House is one of our very favourite spots outside of the Springs. One of the chefs, Jan, is a good friend of ours, and her pie is to die for! If you love great tea, this is the place for you (and us.)"

Kimball's Twin Peak Theater

"The only theater in the Springs that shows independent movies any more. There are only two screens, but you can buy beer and wine and enjoy your libation while watching a slightly bizarre foreign flick."

"Garden of the Gods is a beautiful park that is open to the public. The huge fins of red rock are incredible to hike around. On trail hiking is easy and accessible for the whole family. Off trail can get a little tougher. And you may see some wildlife. Anonymous has seen deer and big-horned sheep in the park!"

"Glen Eyrie is a real-live castle nestled in the shadow of Pike's Peak. Run by a Christian organization, the Navigators, it is open to the public for grounds tours (which are pretty impressive) and teas."

"The Honey Cottage is a great little, locally-owned shop that sells... you got it... honey. Lots and lots of different types and varieties, and the owners are passionate about honey and the bees that produce it. Go in for a free tasting--that's what turned Anonymous and Anonymous into raving honey snobs. You'll never buy cheap generic honey again, promise."

"Our church, IAC, doesn't currently have a permanent home. Each Sunday we meet in the auditorium of a center owned by the Benet Hill Monastery, a Benedictine order in Colorado Springs. Please join us Sunday at 10 am if you're in town."

Great Hikes:

Pike's Peak

"Pike's Peak is the 14,100 foot mountain that you can see from almost everywhere in Colorado Springs. Residents of the Springs tend to give directions N-S-E-W, because the massive mountain is always to the West. There is a road up to the top of Pike's Peak, which is a less expensive but slightly more nerve wracking way of getting to the top other than the Cog Railway or hiking. It will cost you $10 per person in the car, up to $35 per car load of people. Be sure and take a picture of yourself standing on the top of the second-highest peak in the continental United States."

Pikes Peak Cog Railway

"Not only is Pike's Peak railway a scenic and fun way to get to the top of Pike's Peak (the biggest mountain in sight at 14,100 feet above sea level), it's also very close to both the Pike's Peak trail head, and the Manitou Springs Incline--a challenging trail that goes 2,000 feet straight up on old railway ties. The Incline is not for those who have just arrived in Colorado, and should not be traveled or without lots of water. Anonymous's fastest time to the top is about 45 minutes, but don't go trying to be record breakers. If you take the railway, you'll be at the summit in about 2.5 hours, as opposed to the 10.5 hours it took Anonymous and Anonymous to hike up the 7,500 ft climb on foot."

Pulpit Rock Park

"A small park whose main focus is the rather large Pulpit Rock, this is nonetheless a great scramble for those up for more of a challenge (please be sure you're acclimatized to the altitude first!) Not for the faint of heart, but fun for the young & adventurous. From atop Pulpit Rock, you've got a decent view of most of the city. (And a great place to kiss your sweetie.)"

Queen's Canyon

"This is Anonymous's favourite local hike. Queen's Canyon is a great afternoon-hike for those who are a little more adventurous and a little more acclimatized to the altitude. On the Glen Eyrie grounds, you have to sign in with the guard to let them know that you're hiking. But the trails are well marked and fairly easy, although you'll be crossing the river quite a bit. The hike up to the Punch Bowls (the second of two major waterfalls) is fairly challenging and should not be undertaken by those unfamiliar with hiking."

Ute Valley Park

"Ute Valley Park is immediately behind Anonymous's house, and is a fairly easy hike for visitors. It's also fairly short."
