SHARLINE AND JADE 'S WEDDING
August, 2008 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
"Our wedding was great! Getting married at VanDusen Gardens in Vancouver was a dream come true. And then having our reception at Shaughnessy Restaurant in the garden was the icing on the cake. Many of our guests said ours was the best wedding they'd been to. A lot of that was due to the beauty of Vancouver, the Garden, Shaughnessy and our amazing band, a marimba band, Kutapira. We had our wedding in early August, which is supposed to be a sunny time, but the week before our wedding it rained and we got lucky that it was sunny the day of.
Oh, and Wedding Mapper was a great resource to share with our guests. Our guests really liked being able to refer to the map to see what was where.
We'd highly recommend using all of our vendors!"

Band:
Kutapira
Vancouver, BC, Canada"Kutapira is an amazing West African marimba band. You have to see them in person to understand how off the map incredible this group is. Don't be fooled by their young age (most of them are in high school). This is a super professional band that performs in concerts worldwide. They are ridiculously talented and high energy. Many people told us that our wedding was the best they'd ever been to, and largely because the energy Kutapira created through their music was so high, people had their minds blown wide open. Everyone was dancing and jamming, young and old. Booking Kutapira was the number one best decision I made in terms of our wedding plans."
Cakes/Candies Vendor:
Sweet Obsessions
2611 16th Avenue WestVancouver, BC, Canada
"Everything at Sweet Obsessions is delicious. We opted for a massive dessert bar instead of a cake. We had chocolate mousse puffs, fruit tarts, biscotti, and other mini pastries. It was a huge hit. Our guests said everything was divine, the assortment etc. The service is great. They deliver and rent glass plates for presentation. Highly recommended. Also, I thought the prices were good for the quality."
Ceremony:
Ceremony: VanDusen Botanical Garden
5251 Oak StVancouver, BC V6M, CA
"Beautiful, best place in Vancouver to get married for an outside ceremony. Our guests were wowed by the lush lawns and beautiful gardens with flowers from all over the world. The price to rent is pretty good, although I do with it were cheaper, but oh well. The only drawback is that you have to set up on the day of. Nothing can be stored overnight. Also, make sure the garden's staff keep the gate open until 15 minutes or more after your ceremony is supposed to begin. On the day of our wedding the staff closed the gate shortly after 3 p.m. and even though our ceremony was supposed to start at 3 p.m., several of our guests were running late, got to the closed gate and missed the first part of the ceremony."
Reception:
Reception: Shaughnessy Restaurant
"Beautiful restaurant, with lots of windows and natural light. It is a bit pricey, but probably within the range of costs for having it in a nice restaurant, with waiters, tablecloths, etc. I would suggest this for guest sizes under 150. We had 165 guests and it was tight. The food, especially entrees, were really good, especially the steak. Some people said the food was the best they'd had at a restaurant, though two guests said the chicken was too mustardy (dijon sauce) and made their stomachs hurt. The wine is pricey, fyi, because you are paying restaurant prices per bottle unfortunately. And set your bar limit to a manageable cost beforehand. We didn't expect it to be as high as it was, which it was! (We had an open bar) Staff is great, and management, for the most part if helpful and flexible. They let us do some minor decorating. All in all I am very glad we had it here. Especially since it makes a great combo with an outdoor ceremony in VanDusen Garden. Your guests just have to walk from garden and five minutes to the restaurant!"
Hotel:
Main Wedding Hotel: <br> Coast Plaza Hotel & Suites
1763 Comox StreetVancouver, BC, Canada
"Our guest were really pleased with Coast Plaza. Almost every one had great views, and you can't beat the location, right by the water, and Stanley Park. Most of our guests walked around the water and biked in the park. The range of sizes of rooms really worked out for families and larger groups who could all stay in units that were like mini apartment suites. It's definitely not the fanciest, so expect something quality wise more like a 3 star hotel and check it out yourself first. We were going to go with a fancier place like Hyatt, but it was more expensive, they made you sign a contract (Coast Plaza doesn't make you pre-buy, or commit to any of the rooms), and Hyatt parking was expensive and the location not nearly as good as Coast Plaza. So we went with CP."
