CHICAGO WEDDING IN MAY
May, 2010 in Chicago"We had a fantastic wedding. It was worth all the hard work we put into it. I'm not sure how many guests actually used our Wedding Map, but that seems to be par for the course with accommodating your guests. It's a great service, though, and I would use it again."

Ceremony:
Rockefeller Memorial Chapel
5850 South Woodlawn AvenueChicago, Illinois, US
"Besides being a stunning venue, this is our church, so it had extra meaning for us. Not cheap but there was no other place we wanted to consider. Very glad we went with our gut on this one. Our guests were impressed and it suited our tastes."
Reception:
The Tasting Room
1415 W Randolph StChicago, Illinois, US
"Although this place switched Event Coordinators on us mid-stream (and without announcing it), our reception was GREAT. We loved this place from the first time we saw it. It is elegant but relaxed. Our guests loved it. Food was terrific."
Hotel:
Club Quarters
75 E Wacker DrChicago, Illinois, US
"Via the groom's affiliation with U of C we were able to offer our guests modestly priced rooms at this hotel, which is right downtown. A bargain in our book, though still too pricey for some of our guests (but what can you do). Though they were always willing to work with us, we did get the sense that weddings are not exactly their main focus. Still, worth it in my opinion for the price/location (and again they were always concerned, just not always quick or accurate). This hotel has a beautiful lobby and Club level with conference rooms."
Hotel:
Hotel 71
71 E Wacker DrChicago, Illinois, US
"We received no feedback from guests about this hotel, and I'll assume no news is good news. The staff were pleasant to work with. They offered us great rates for the location, and this hotel is definitely geared towards leisure travelers, which made it more accommodating."
Restaurant:
Bandera Restaurant
535 North Michigan AvenueChicago, IL, United States
"Good Spanish food. This restaurant is one of few that overlooks Michigan Avenue from the 2nd floor, and there is often live jazz."
Restaurant:
Boston Blackies
164 East Grand AvenueChicago, IL, United States
"Great burgers and very affordable. A good, local restaurant."
Restaurant:
Emilio's Sol Y Nieve
215 East Ohio StreetChicago, IL, United States
"Our current favorite spot for tapas. Expand your palatte without breaking the bank by trying some of the small plates offered here."
Restaurant:
Portillo's Hot Dogs Inc
100 West Ontario StreetChicago, IL, United States
"A standing favorite among local Chicagoans. If you like hot dogs, burgers, and chocolate cake, this is your place!"
Restaurant:
Rock 'n' Roll McDonald's
600 North Clark StreetChicago, IL, United States
"This is Erika's favorite spot for chocolate sundaes. Formerly the Rock'n'Roll McDonalds, this newer structure is touted to be the revamped model for all new McD's restaurants. This building merits a visit for its architecture and design."
Restaurant:
Weber Grill Restaurant
539 North State StreetChicago, IL, United States
"Tasty food. Erika vouches for the turkey burger; it's great."
Attraction:
Architecture River Cruise
333 North Michigan AvenueChicago, IL, United States
"A tourist must-do! Get on the water and see the city from a new perspective with stories and facts narrated by the Chicago Architecture Foundation."
Attraction:
Buckingham Fountain
"One of Chicago's monumental attractions. A healthy walk from the hotels, and a great way to take in the city."
Attraction:
Chicago Cultural Center
78 East Washington StreetChicago, IL, United States
"A spot frequented by us for art, lectures, and film. This impressive building, the original site of the Chicago Public Library, will dazzle you with its mosaic tile work and detail. Stop by the welcome desk as you enter for a brochure and information. Don't miss the hall of Chicago photos and the newly restored Tiffany Dome. All the exhibits here are completely FREE!!"
Attraction:
Chicago Riverwalk
"Take in the city away from the hustle and bustle of the streets on the Chicago Riverwalk. The Riverwalk is a path along the Chicago River dotted with restaurants, bike rentals, and other amenities (depending on weather)."
Attraction:
Historic Water Tower
806 North Michigan AvenueChicago, IL, United States
"The historic water tower is one of the few remaining buildings still standing that survived the Great Chicago Fire in 1871. Often features free art exhibits inside."
Attraction:
Lake Front Path
"Forty-plus miles of paved paths run along Chicago's lakefront. Great for walking to take it all in. Or, rent bicycles and go exploring."
Attraction:
Macy's on State
111 North State StreetChicago, IL, United States
"Where Erika found her wedding dress! One of Chicago's most historic department stores. Originally Marshall Field's, the building still bears its historic Field's nameplates and clocks on the outside. Inside, don't miss the Tiffany ceiling (5th floor). Good food court on the 7th floor."
Attraction:
Millennium Park
201 East Randolph StreetChicago, IL, United States
"A favorite of Erika and Matt's, and their spot for many an outdoor concert. This park is basically a giant green roof (a parking garage and train station are underneath), consisting of a collection of world-class sculpture and architecture--all compacted into a few city blocks. The entire park is free and open to the public."
Attraction:
Navy Pier
600 East Grand AvenueChicago, IL, United States
"Loads of family friendly entertainment."
Rehearsal Dinner:
The Original Gino's East
162 E Superior StChicago, IL 60611
"We invited our out-of-town family (which is all of them) to attend our rehearsal dinner as a thanks for making the trip. This place plays up the city, which is what we wanted. It was a casual dinner, so it didn't compete with the upcoming wedding dinner, and our guests loved it. Food and service were good, and the graffiti walls were a hit."
