El Morro, Puerto Rico < change city >

September, 2011 in San Juan

"San Juan is the perfect location for a destination wedding- I would recommend it to anyone. Besides the amazingness of the city (which definitely has something for everyone- we had guests ranging in age from 8 to 78 and everyone had a blast), no passport is needed, they use the US dollar, and it's very easy to get around using English.

In the end, our wedding was everything I could've imagined, and somehow, everything worked out perfectly. I cannot stress enough that the people of San Juan operate entirely on 'island time'. I spent countless days, weeks, and months pulling my hair out and pleading with vendors via email to get back to me, and learned very quickly that 'we'll have it to you tomorrow' means 'we'll get it to you eventually'. And they do. They really do. In the end everyone is wonderful and helpful, but up until about the 6 wk mark, you (if you're anything like I was) will be convinced everything will go wrong, noone will show up, and it'll be a disaster. I assure you, it won't be. So my advice is just, go with the flow, don't give yourself carpel tunnel from clicking 'refresh' on your inbox 2189347 times a day, and everything will turn out wonderful!

Being the control freak that I am, I handled all of the planning myself. It wasn't something I would consider loads of fun, but it wasn't entirely impossible. I used this website numerous times, and was greatful for the help and advice I received from other brides. If anyone has any questions I would love to help if I can!"

Cakes/Candies Vendor:

Gretchen Narvaez

San Juan,, PR

"Wonderful!! The cake was reasonably priced, and she was quite prompt to respond to my emails. She worked with us to design the perfect cake, and it looked a billion times better than I could've ever imagined! It tasted amazing as well!"

Flavor Merchants

San Juan,, PR

"If I could give them 10 stars, I would. We wanted traditional cuisine, and decided to go with a pig roast. The food was TO DIE FOR, and they were so personable and professional. It was definitely the right choice, as we wanted to give our guests a taste of PR, as opposed to the standard wedding food. I will rave about our caterers for years to come! We hired a bartender with them as well, and she went above and beyond what we asked for, actually going around and cleaning glasses, and she remembered everyone's drink (we had 50 guests) In the end, we had a TON of food leftover, and we decided to donate it to a shelter, and they were gracious enough to take it there for us. Top notch!!!!"

Limo Company:

Adames Luxury Transportation

San Juan,, PR

"Soo wonderful! I had a car pick myself and bridesmaids up at our hotel, and then we rented a 14 passenger van to haul our bridal party around afterward for pictures. Both drivers were amazing, and the second guy even drove us to lunch at a favorite spot of his (which was delicious) We had to switch our times around because of a hurricane, and they still picked us up and dropped us off on time. Their prices were beyond reasonable, as they charge by vehicle, not by hour or person. I worked with Giselle from a coordinating standpoint, and she was great! We needed to get a special permit for the cars that I was unaware of, and she called and took care of it for me because she 'didn't want to add another thing on my plate'."

Rev. Aran Santana

P.O. Box 585
Puerto Real, Puerto Rico 00740, USA

"Okay, I know I've raved about all of our vendors (and they truly were all so phenomenal!) BUT, our Reverend, ohmigosh. I don't even have the words to express just how outstanding he was. He made our ceremony perfect!!!! He met with us the day before to go over everything that would be said, giving us options and showing examples. Even my husband's friends-most of whom are nowhere CLOSE to even thinking about being married, and generally only go to weddings for the booze and single ladies- couldn't stop talking about how awesome Rev Santana was. I get tears in my eyes thinking about it. I'll stop gushing now, but if you're in the market for an officiant in San Juan, you would be CRAAAZZZZZZZY not to pick this guy. I promise you will not regret it!"

"So great! We were nervous about picking a photographer without getting to meet them first (we live in Illinois, and didn't get a chance to go to PR before the ceremony) but fell in love with his style that we saw on his website. I truly think he was the perfect fit- his pictures are all very candid. We haven't seen them yet (we got married only 5 days ago) but I'm confident we'll love every one of them. Plus, he offers a package where he gives you the CD of all the pictures he took, with the printing rights, which worked out well for us because of the distance."

Rentals Vendor:

Party Line

San Juan,, PR

"Wanda was so helpful- their prices were much cheaper than any of the other vendors in the area. They were so quick to accommodate us, even though we had a demanding order (we wanted chairs delivered somewhere at 9, set up, picked up at noon, brought 15 miles away and set up again, along with tables and linens) They didn't even bat an eye, said no problem, and everything was picked up and dropped off on time and set up just how we wanted."

Fort San Cristóbal - Ceremony - Calle Norzagaray, San Juan, Puerto Rico

Fort San Felipe del Morro

"Beautiful! We almost had to cancel the ceremony because of a hurricane, but Jorge was amazing and let us proceed with the festivities. Amazing place to get married!"

"We rented this house using homeaway.com. We wanted a house large enough for ourselves and our bridal party (we paid for their lodging to allieviate the cost of the trip) and with the space to have the reception at. The picture shown is the back yard of the house, and it was more than enough space for our 50 guest reception. The view was SPECTACULAR, and the house was great also. We comfortably slept 12 people and could've easily fit more. The owners were very nice and easy to work with, and the price was unbeatable (esp when you figure it was lodging for 12 people for 7 nights as well as a reception venue) By using a private residence, we didn't have to deal with pre-picked vendors, as with many hotel wedding packages."

Conrad San Juan Condado Plaza - Puerto Rico

999 Ashford Avenue
San Juan, PR, United States

"We ended up spending our last night at this hotel because of our issue with La Concha, and were pretty bummed that we didn't just stay here in the first place! Staff was amazing, and after hearing our La Concha story, upgraded us to a suite for free! They also have a casino on their premise, and also had their own private beach. I would DEFINITELY recommend this hotel to anyone going to PR"

La Concha Renaissance San Juan Resort

1077 Ave Dr Ashford
San Juan,, Puerto Rico

"Stayed here for our wedding night. We booked the room for a couple more nights because the views were lovely, but ended up having a few too many issues with the hotel, that didn't get resolved the way they should've. The hotel is nice, and they have a casino inside so that was a bonus."

Bacardi Rum Factory

"I think the title says it all. Not only is the Bacardi factory here, but if you stroll through Old San Juan you'll find a handful of local rum producers, all of whom give free samples!"

El Yunque Rainforest - Attraction - Carretera 191, Mameyes II, Puerto Rico, PR

El Yunque Rainforest

"Definitely a must see while you're in Puerto Rico. All hotels have pamphlets on tours. It's about a 45 min drive, but our tour guide picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel. Well worth the price and time!!"
