Attraction:
Cliff Walk
117 Memorial BlvdNewport, RI, United States
"http://cliffwalk.com/ Cliff Walk starts at Memorial Boulevard and runs south just about 3.5 miles. This first segment is about 3/8ths of a mile [see maps below]. The access points are at Memorial Boulevard, and the ends of Cliff Terrace and Seaview Ave. Parking is available at Newport's Easton's Beach (First Beach) and at parking meters on Memorial Boulevard. Cliff Terrace and Seaview are no-parking zones."
Attraction:
The Forty Steps
Forty Steps, Newport, RI 02840Newport, Rhode Island, US
"http://www.cliffwalk.com/sect2.htm At the end of Narragansett Ave., about 3/4ths of a mile south from Memorial Boulevard, are the Forty Steps ... a dramatic stone staircase that drops about 2/3rds of the way down the side of the cliff to a balcony over the sea. Spectacular anytime, this platform is especially dramatic right after a storm when the waves crash into the rocks directly below. Some parking is available on Narragansett Ave. Also the city has placed two temporary toilet units just off the Walk. This segment of the walk is well marked, the condition is very good, and it is easily used for walking and running. During Newport's Golden Age, the Forty Steps were a gathering place for the servants and workers from the nearby mansions. Here they would hold weekend dances and play the Irish songs and music that reminded them of home."
Attraction:
The Breakers
44 Ochre Point AveNewport, RI, United States
"http://www.cliffwalk.com/sect3.htm http://tickets.newportmansions.org/mansion.aspx?id=1000 The Breakers is the grandest of Newport's summer "cottages" and a symbol of the Vanderbilt family's social and financial preeminence in turn of the century America. You can buy tickets to tour the mansion online at the website above. Anonymousand I spent hours here on our first visit to Newport. It's a must see!"
