G MICHELLE AND BRYAN'S WEDDING

October, 2009 in Columbus

"We had the wedding we wanted!! We had a small wedding at the Central Ohio Fire Museum. We limited the service to immediate family only and still ended up with 30 guests. We followed with a reception for 200 at Retreat at Turnberry. This is a city owned park with what may have been an old private golf lounge. The Retreat features a wooden bar and full kitchen included for the rental fee. As it is city owned the restrictions include getting a permit to serve alcohol and allowing others to use to parking lot and grounds. ( Most people do not even know this is a public park, so we only had about 3 other people in the park.) We choose to do a DIY wedding with a cousin mastering the BBQ while another set up. If you hire a caterer or wedding planner they would likely take care of the permits for you."

"Personally I don't like cake. However, the cake I tried at Resch was very good. Resch's specializes in old fashioned butter cream iced cakes. They delivered and set up on time. They even allowed me to change the design 2 weeks prior to the wedding without changing the cost."

Florist:

Fifty-Flowers

Appleton, WI, USA

"I got what I ordered. I did like the bouquets and boutonnieres. I was mildly disappointed in how fast the flowers began to wilt, even after following the unpacking directions. I cannot exactly complain as I made the choice to order online. FYI these are the same flowers offered by Bridesign.com, Fifty-Flowers just has different ribbon. My packing boxes had Bridesign's logo all over them."

"If you are looking for someplace unique with great photo spaces, THIS is the place. This was my father's first station and the employees were amazingly accommodating. They moved several fire trucks, dismantled the manikins and allowed us full access for photos in all areas. (Even those normally closed to the public.) They even had a clean, indoor play area to keep our nieces (flower girls) and nephews entertained."

"This was a good spot for a reception. But not for those wanting a grand picturesque local. This would be a good spot for a casual summer/fall reception. The park had swings for the kids and a wide open area surrounded on all sides by trees. The building itself had a fireplace on one wall and a bar with mini-fridge, ice maker and sink behind a 3 foot wide knee wall. The Retreat also featured a full kitchen included in the rental price. ($65 per hour) Rental included set up of tables and chairs to a "map" we provided and "heavy" clean-up. We were expected to have all trash in the cans."
