ATHENA AND KEITH'S WEDDING

March, 2009 in Panama City

"Ours was a mostly do it yourself affair...we already owned our wedding attire (mine was a ballroom gown). I did my own flowers. We had a romantic at-home reception with harp and hawaiian music on CD. Impromptu piano playing by guests. A delicious and beautifully hand decorated buttercream and raspberry cake adorned with seashells by Publix. Also a chocolate groom's cake that looked like a tuxedo from Publix. Amy at Supercuts on 23rd St. arranged my hair and veil, and calmed my nerves. I arrived with my mother and sister in my own car, a white Grand Marquis, decorated with wedding decals (from the Dollar Tree). There I purchased and made my own bouquet with 100 white silk roses, orchid and blue hydrangea to mimic the rainbow effect of the Swarovski crystals and pearls on my gown. (About $20 worth of flowers). I made mother's corsages and bridesmaid bouquets for my matron of honor (my sister) and my two daughters. I made boutonieres for the best man and groomsmen with a single white rose with baby's breath, wrapped up in a leaf with a glue gun and attached with a large pearl hatpin.
We served chilled Pasta Salad (boiled pasta, black olives, red pepper) with parmesan cheese and Italian dressing, grapes and strawberries for fruit, Ritz crackers, non-alcoholic peach punch (instant peach tea, gingerale and vanilla icecream) cake and coffee. My bride's book came from Michaels. My silver shoes and hosiery from Fioni at Payless. I had a manicure, pedicure and facial from Bliss (which was blissful). The invitations were printed on our computer using free Avery software on stationary (Beautiful Blues), folded and sealed without an outter envelope, with a gold Joy stamp. I did my own caligraphy. We made save the date cards, too. We wanted to use Wedding Ring stamps but were too early-they weren't out yet. In all, we had the elegant, classic wedding we wanted. We planned for 75 guests and had about 40. There was alot of cake left over, but I'm glad we had the larger cake. We found that not everyone eats cake! But everyone ate the Pasta salad and fruits, catered by a friend of the family who works at Fresh Market in Destin. Our friend Mike Latta is a pro photographer and his services were his gift to us. Our entire wedding cost less than $500 out of pocket. We had a stay-cation Panama City Beach honeymoon at our own home, and then a fun trip to our timeshare in Daytona Beach six months later."

"The setting was perfect for a simple March afternoon wedding~ serene, plenty of parking, a green garden with fountain. Beautiful wrought iron and brick gazebo that made a wonderful photo backdrop. A place to plug in the music. The cost was around $100. Permission must be obtained from the Parks department of Panama City. The officiant was Pastor Tommy McCormick of Straight Arrow Studios."
