Lower Bankhead

"Bankhead, now a ghosttown and historic site, was once a thriving mining town. Built in 1904, the town contained houses, stores, a hotel (Cascade House), waterworks and a power plant. Unlike other towns in the area or in much of the country at the time, Bankhead had running water and electric lights in each house. From 1904 to 1922 Bankhead supplied coal for the Canadian Pacific Railway, boasting a population of 1500. When the mines closed, many people (as well as buildings) moved to towns and cities in the area. All that remains are foundations and scattered remains."
