Restaurant:

Caseus - Restaurant - 93 Whitney Avenue, New Haven, CT, United States

Caseus

93 Whitney Avenue
New Haven, CT, United States

"A Belgian-inspired bistro that offers a great selection of cheese and a small but good beer and wine list, you can get a full meal or just a light snack and a glass of wine here. We love the mussels and frites with fresh mayo! Relatively small with a unique atmosphere."

Restaurant:

Delaney's Restaurant & Tap Room - Restaurant - 882 Whalley Ave, New Haven, CT, 06515

Delaney's Restaurant & Tap Room

882 Whalley Avenue
New Haven, CT, United States

"The only beer bar that rivals Prime 16 in the area, but you'll need a car to get out here. The burgers and wings aren't bad, but really you're going here for the tap list, which can be checked on their website (unfortunately there can be a real lag sometimes)."

Restaurant:

Firehouse 12 - Restaurant - 45 Crown Street, New Haven, CT, United States

Firehouse 12

45 Crown Street
New Haven, CT, United States

"Really interesting bar that specializes in making a great drink. Originally, the space upstairs was designed as a recording studio, and this bar was intended as an area to entertain recording musicians. However, at some point the owners decided to convert it into a full bar open to the public. One of our favorite stops for a drink or two."

Restaurant:

Foster's - Restaurant - 56 Orange Street, New Haven, CT, United States

Foster's

56 Orange Street
New Haven, CT, United States

"Foster's specializes in creative menu pairings and ingredients, but their menu also contains more traditional items that are well-prepared. I believe it won "Best New Restaurant" in New Haven last year. They also do all sorts of special events, including a wild game night with wine pairings."

Restaurant:

Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana - Restaurant - 157 Wooster Street, New Haven, CT, United States

Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana

157 Wooster Street
New Haven, CT, United States

"The other historic Wooster Street pizzeria in New Haven, Frank Pepe's truly is outstanding. If you want the nostalgia of New Haven's historic Italian neighborhood and great pizza, this is the place for you. Just be prepared to wait for a seat! We like the salami on their pies."

Restaurant:

Guadalupe La Poblinita - Restaurant - 136 Chapel St, New Haven, CT, 06513

Guadalupe La Poblinita

136 Chapel St
New Haven, CT 06513

"Unlike many of the restaurants listed on this map, Guadalupe is not "fine dining" and, unfortunately, it is not accessible from downtown without a car. That said, upon taking his first few bites of enchilada verde from this eatery, Dave, the father of the groom, once declared: "This is the best Mexican food I've EVER had." The bride and groom agree. If you go, do yourself a favor and order the mole. The family is from Puebla, the area from which the dish originates, and they are famous for it locally. A few disclaimers: The owners keep odd hours. It's never open past 8 and is more of a lunch spot for the local Hispanic community. It's always a good idea to call ahead (203-752-1017--the owner may answer in Spanish, but speaks fluent English). Second, this is a cash-only joint, so don't get caught with plastic!"

Restaurant:

Ibiza - Restaurant - 39 High St, New Haven, CT, 06511

Ibiza

39 High St
New Haven, CT 06511

"Spanish-fusion and easily one of the best if not the best restaurant in town, this is a great option if you're looking for a nice meal while in town. We're yet to have anything less than a spectacular meal here."

Restaurant:

Ibiza Tapas - Restaurant - 1832 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden, CT, United States

Ibiza Tapas

1832 Dixwell Avenue
Hamden, CT, United States

"While Barcelona is quite good for tapas and right downtown, Ibiza Tapas, about a 15 minute drive outside of New Haven, has the best in the area. It's sort of in a weird area, but the restaurant itself is great, though it unfortunately does not take reservations at this time, which can make it a gamble."

Restaurant:

L'Orcio - Restaurant - 806 State St, New Haven, CT, 06511

L'Orcio

806 State Street
New Haven, CT, United States

"L'Orcio is probably our favorite of a bevy of Italian restaurants in town. It's walkable from downtown, but it will be a decent hike."

Restaurant:

Le Petit Cafe

225 Montowese St # 7
Branford, CT, United States

"Perhaps the best restaurant in the area, Le Petit Cafe is outstanding French cuisine located in Branford, a sleepy town just a few miles east of New Haven. Whereas Union League is prim and proper, LPC offers a much more relaxed bistro cafe environment and a prixe fix menu that rotates on a weekly basis according to what fresh ingredients the chef can secure. It's outstanding."

Restaurant:

Libby's Italian Pastry Shop - Restaurant - 139 Wooster St, New Haven, CT, 06511

Libby's Italian Pastry Shop

139 Wooster Street
New Haven, CT, United States

"There are those who argue Libby's is better than Lucibello's. We are yet to try it and find that hard to believe, but it is apparently without dispute that Libby's also serves up some mean gelato. A good desert option if you eat on Wooster Street."

Restaurant:

Louis' Lunch - Restaurant - 263 Crown Street, New Haven, CT, United States

Louis' Lunch

263 Crown Street
New Haven, CT, United States

"Allegedly the birthplace of the hamburger. Is it the best burger I've ever had? Nah, but it's a great experience. And the burgers absolutely are good!"

"The best Italian pastry shop in town."

Restaurant:

Modern Apizza - Restaurant - 874 State St, New Haven, CT, United States

Modern Apizza Place

874 State Street
New Haven, CT, United States

"New Haven is known for its brick oven, charcoal fired pizza, and this is our favorite place in town. While it doesn't have the history of the Wooster Street stops, Modern is the most accessible and offers the most seating. You really should try a New Haven pie while you're here!"

Restaurant:

Pantry The - Restaurant - 2 Mechanic Street, New Haven, CT, United States

Restaurant:

Prime 16 - Restaurant - 172 Temple Street, New Haven, CT, United States

Prime 16

172 Temple Street
New Haven, CT, United States

"Pretty good burgers and pub fare with a good atmosphere, but the real reason to come here is the beer selection. Prime 16 sports about 20 rotating taps and a pretty good bottle selection. Check their website for the draught list at any given time, but you'll typically find offerings from the best brewers in the Northeast--Allagash, Weyerbacher, Captain Lawrence, Smuttynose, Southern Tier, etc.--as well as from across the country and world. For non-beer drinkers: I'm disappointed in you, but Prime 16 does offer a full bar. Great happy hour deals if you're here during the week."

Restaurant:

Rudy's Restaurant - Restaurant - 372 Elm Street, New Haven, CT, United States

Rudy's Restaurant

372 Elm Street
New Haven, CT, United States

"Easily the best grungy dive bar in town, Rudy's is a New Haven/Yale establishment with a pretty darn good juke box. If you go, you've got to order the frites and pick out a few mayos, made fresh on site (our favorite is the curry mayo!)."

Restaurant:

Sally's Apizza - Restaurant - 237 Wooster Street, New Haven, Connecticut, United States

Sally's Apizza

237 Wooster Street
New Haven, CT, United States

"The favorite pizza spot for many lifelong New Haveners, it's perhaps the most historic, but there's a bit of nepotism thing going on here: know the owners, get good service; if you're an out-of-towner, well, at least the pizza is good . . . ."

Restaurant:

Skappo Italian Wine Bar - Restaurant - 59 Crown Street, New Haven, CT, United States

Skappo Italian Wine Bar

59 Crown Street
New Haven, CT, United States

"Small Italian restaurant downtown near the hotel that has a limited but affordable menu. We haven't tried it yet, but we have eaten at their small sandwich shop/grocery, Skappo Merkato, which is around the corner and very good."

Restaurant:

Skappo Merkato - Restaurant - 51 Orange Street, New Haven, CT, United States

Skappo Merkato

51 Orange Street
New Haven, CT, United States

"This is a very good lunch option if you just want something inexpensive. Wonderful whole and half sandwiches, served warm and cold, they also typically have a soup of the day. It's also a small Italian grocery store. Their main restaurant is right around the corner."

Restaurant:

Soul De Cuba

283 Crown Street
New Haven, CT, United States

"Admittedly, having lived in Central Florida for a few years, we're snobs when it comes to Cuban food. And this is pretty darn good, especially for New Haven, Connecticut! Very small and intimate setting."

Restaurant:

Thali Regional Cuisine-India - Restaurant - 4 Orange Street, New Haven, CT, United States

Thali Regional Cuisine-India

4 Orange Street
New Haven, CT, United States

"If you like Indian food, forget all the other recommendations I'm giving you here for a moment and just go to Thali. It is, bar none, the best Indian food this curry snob has ever encountered. It's a bit pricier than most Indian joints, but trust us: it's worth it."

Restaurant:

Thali Too - Restaurant - 65 Broadway, New Haven, CT, United States

Thali Too

65 Broadway
New Haven, CT, United States

"Thali's vegetarian counterpart is a great option for a lighter, less expensive meal or a lunch."

Restaurant:

The Place Outdoor Restaurant - Restaurant - 901 Boston Post Road, Guilford, CT, United States

The Place Outdoor Restaurant

901 Boston Post Road
Guilford, CT, United States

"Another locale that is accessible only by car, The Place is an outdoor venue that serves up clams, lobster, muscles, etc. cooked over wood burning grills. You can bring your own booze and sides and have a great afternoon of it. It's a few towns over in Guilford."

Restaurant:

Tre Scalini Restaurant - Restaurant - 100 Wooster Street, New Haven, CT, United States

Tre Scalini Restaurant

100 Wooster Street
New Haven, CT, United States

"Purportedly the best Italian restaurant on Wooster Street, which is considered (very) "Little Italy" in New Haven. We're going to try it out for Sheli's graduation, so hopefully we'll be able to provide more info before the wedding. There's also a small cheese shop next door."

Restaurant:

Union League Cafe - Restaurant - 1032 Chapel Street, New Haven, CT, United States

Union League Cafe

1032 Chapel Street
New Haven, CT, United States

"Another one of those New Haven establishments, Union League offers the best French cuisine in the city. While you'll see many patrons in jacket and tie, there are also plenty of Yale students that swing by in jeans for a meal, so you won't feel out of place in a polo or button down. The food is outstanding, and if you want something formal, this is the best option in town."

Restaurant:

York Street Noodle House - Restaurant - 166 York St, New Haven, CT, 06511

York Street Noodle House

166 York Street

"Probably the best noodle house in New Haven, this would be a great choice for a cheap lunch or dinner. And they have bubble tea!"

Restaurant:

Zinc - Restaurant - 964 Chapel Street, New Haven, CT, United States

Zinc

964 Chapel Street
New Haven, CT, United States

"Zinc is probably our favorite American Bistro stop in New Haven. The owner and chef have really embraced the local food movement, so you can expect a fresh meal. Also check out Kitchen Zinc down the alley behind the main restaurant. It offers great "hippy" gourmet pizza that is a good alternative to New Haven style. There's also a great patio back there to enjoy a nice New England summer day/evening."

Grove St Cemetery

227 Grove Street

Attraction:

Knights of Columbus: Museum - Attraction - 1 State St, New Haven, CT, United States

Knights of Columbus Museum

1 State St
New Haven, CT, United States

"Now that the Inquisition is over, this is what all you Catholics have been waiting for! Yes, the Knights of Columbus is headquartered right here in New Haven, and along with it resides their spectacular museum. From the Lady of Guadalupe to the Lady Madonna to Mother Theresa, this place is a concrete and rebar homage to chastity. I think you get in free if you can recite seven Hail Mary's at the information desk. Just an FYI."

Attraction:

Owl Shop LLC - Attraction - 268 College Street, New Haven, CT, United States

Owl Shop LLC

268 College Street
New Haven, CT, United States

"Just about the only place a man can get a cigar in New England these days thanks to the liberals. Apparently, enough of the well-connected Yale crowd raised such a stink that the Legislature excepted this place when it passed legislation banning smoking indoors in the Nutmeg State. I suspect George Herbert Walker may have intervened on our behalf."

Yale University: Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library

121 Wall Street
New Haven, CT, United States

"The Yale rare book and manuscripts library is definitely worth a look-see if you're walking around campus. According to the website: "One of the largest buildings in the world devoted entirely to rare books and manuscripts, the library has room in the central tower for 180,000 volumes and in the underground book stacks for over 600,000 volumes; it now contains about 500,000 volumes and several million manuscripts. Temperature and humidity controls ensure that stored materials are protected for future generations. The building, of Vermont marble and granite, bronze and glass, was designed by Gordon Bunshaft, of the firm of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill; the George A. Fuller Construction Company was the general contractor. Work began on the building in 1960 and was completed in 1963. The white, gray-veined marble panes of the exterior are one and one-quarter inches thick and are framed by shaped light gray Vermont Woodbury granite. These marble panels filter light so that rare materials can be displayed without damage. From the exterior, however, the building's powerful stone geometry serves to dominate the space it occupies in Hewitt University Quadrangle, amidst neo-Classical and neo-Gothic neighbors. Also visible across the plaza is Alexander Calder's 'Gallows and Lollipops'." They also have temporary exhibits and will routinely have rare works on display. A must see for book lovers."
