Hi Kimberly,

Yes, I did wait in line to get a date at Alhambra. If you are a Mt Pleasant resident you get to go a week before non-residents to book a date. The way it worked was I got there Monday morning at 10:00 AM (when they said the doors opened) and got in line and they started taking bookings on Tues at 8:00 AM. I was the 12th person in line when I got there.

We did not have a set date in mind when I went - we had 6 dates that we were willing to choose from. Two of the dates were still available when I got there, so I didn't have a problem.

I heard that last year there weren't as many people waiting as when I went. If you have a certain date that you have your heart set on, then it might be more difficult. But if you are able to be flexible then you shouldn't have a problem.

thanks for your response. my wonderful future husband said he would do anything to get our date! he called alhambra hall and they said he had to camp out over night before to be first in line to get our date. i have heard everything from having to stay overnight to having to be there to get a number to sign a contract. didnt know what process you went through to get yours. people i have talked to, about getting our date, says to be there early the day before and prepare to wait the whole time. my boyfriend said he is willing to but wasnt sure if he would have to. did you have to wait to get a number before you signed a contract or did you have to wait overnight there before you signed? i also seen you had a band play for your wedding. i was wondering if he covered all the songs that you wanted for the reception or did you have to compromise on some songs? we both like a wide variety of music and wasnt sure if they could acomplish both of our taste. thank you so much for reading and responding to us.

I did wait overnight. They said that the doors would open at 10:00 AM on Monday morning - I got there at 9:30 and there were already 11 people/groups in front of me. The first woman in line had been there since Sunday morning because her daughter only had 1 date that would work for her.

There was no 'taking a number' or anything. Basically, people got in line as they got there. We had an unofficial sign in sheet so everyone could see what dates were already 'taken'. I showed up with a lawn chair, snacks, a pillow and blanket, and stuff to keep me busy. My sister spent the night with me (my husband brought us air mattresses to sleep on) and another friend brought dinner. It turned into a big slumber party pretty much.

The people in charge of the hall did come in Monday afternoon and took everyone's names and started filling out the paperwork so it would run smoothly the next morning, but they did not take any dates.


We did have a band and they played a wide variety of music. For the cocktail hour and first dances we had songs on an ipod that they played through their system and then for the rest of the night it was the live band. I wasn't too particular about the song selection - I just didn't want any of the cheesy songs (chicken dance, macarena, electric slide, etc)
