"Amazing photographer and totally consummate professional. Derrick was a joy to work with and so much fun to have around on the day of the wedding. TOTALLY RECOMMEND!"

Ceremony:

Rockcliffe Pavillion - Ceremony - Rockcliffe Drive

Rockcliffe Park Pavilion

"Beautiful location - overlooking the Ottawa River, in the heart of Rockliffe Park. This venue can be tricky for seating - we had our ceremony "in the round" - in the middle of columns of the Pavilion, so all of our guests could see us during the ceremony. The acoustics are fantastic in the Pavilion - no miking is needed. There is an electrical plug if you're wanting to play music at the site. The only challenge is the Pavilion is in the middle of a public park - so be prepared to have people watching your wedding, or being noisy. As long as you have a guest or coordinator to shush people, it's all good! We LOVED this site and were thrilled to have gotten married here."

Reception:

National Arts Centre - Reception - 53 Elgin St, Ottawa, ON, K1P

National Arts Centre

"The NAC is a great place to have a wedding, overall. The location in terms of proximity to downtown attractions is fantastic - many of our guests did a bit of Ottawa sightseeing before the reception started. The NAC as a whole, however, is a challenge. I found dealing with their Banquet Coordinators extremely frustrating - and there were a lot of things that could not be accommodated. Many times I was told things down the line (for example, what the room rental rates were) that were conflicting with earlier emails and statements. The food is pretty good, and our guests immensely enjoyed all that they ate. One of the big challenges was we were supposed to have the reception room until 2:30 a.m. - but suddenly, I was told at 12:30, that the reception was ending at 1 a.m. FOR NO REASON. As well, I had to give a DETAILED event plan to the NAC a month before the wedding - yet during the reception, their banquet coordinator kept asking me mundane questions like "When will speeches start?" - when he had the event plan! Overall, I would be cautious in recommending this vendor. It's beautiful, relatively affordable (except they charge 30% in taxes!) but you will deal with some challenges."

"AMAAAAAZING service. We chose this hotel because it was extremely affordable and we'd had a great experience there. While it might not be located in the downtown core, it's only about a 10-minute drive to downtown. The hotel was amazing in helping us out - they gave our guests a room rate of $89 a night, and when 10 guests had booked rooms, we got our own accommodation for free! Each room comes with a kitchenette, free in-room internet and cable, and has either two beds or a bed and sofa bed. There's also free parking for guests. Our hotel went above and beyond in helping us out too - there was a welcome sign when arriving at the hotel, coffee/tea/cookies were set out on a table for our guests, a rose was put into each room where our guests were staying, they let me go into our guest rooms to put our out of town packages in each room, and they included information on where the closest liquor stores were when each guest checked in (veeeery important!) They also put us all on the same level and gave me a list of rooms where everyone was staying - very helpful. I would totally recommend this hotel for your out of town guests."
