TRAVIS AND CARRIE'S WEDDING

July, 2008 in Charleston

"What could be better than a wedding on the Oregon coast in July?! The weather was gorgeous and our guests had a ball. Although it was a formal wedding, we wanted guests to relax and have fun, so after the ceremony at Shore Acres Botanical Gardens, we headed to the reception at Sunset Bay for an afternoon of surf, sand and sun. (Both venues only cost $330 combined!) After the reception, we had a huge bonfire on the beach at OIMB where we dropped crab pots and partied until the wee hours. Oregon rocks!!!"

Cakes/Candies Vendor:

Sweet Life

Charleston, OR, USA

"We ordered a fantastic 3 tier cake from Sweet Life and LOVED it! We just moved to Oregon so were worried about finding a cake vendor, but they make absolutely the best cake I've ever had, including a chocolate orgasm cake that is similar to one of my mom's traditional Italian wedding cake recipes. We saved our top 6" layer, gave at least 2" slices of cake and it still easily fed 65 guests. People kept coming for seconds! We Because we didn't order it as a "wedding" cake with a one-on-one consultation and tasting, the cake was only $185 instead of over $400. We took in a photo of a cake we liked 2 days before our wedding, they put the entire thing together for our rather than requiring set-up on sight, and a friend drove it the 3 hrs out to Sunset Bay from Eugene. It held together perfectly. Our flavors were cafe au lait, chocolate orgasm, and carrot. I'm telling you, go SWEET LIFE!"

Registry Vendor:

Bed, Bath and Beyond

Charleston, OR, USA

"We registered 2 weeks before our wedding and the staff at BB & B were awesome. The registration process was simple and quick, we found tons of stuff we liked, it was easy to add items to our registry in the store or on line, and they have a great discount program for us to purchase items still on our registry after the wedding for a 20% discount. We're planning on using it. They even let us stay and shop for over an hour after the store had already closed. On top of that, they gave us an incredible discount on a display hammock we liked for our wedding night on the beach!"

David's Bridal

"I could write a short story about my experiences at David's Bridal. A couple of the gals here at our Eugene store were helpful and friendly but I absolutely can't recommend the company. I had 4 bridesmaids, all in different states, so ended up choosing DBs because they have stores everywhere. However, all of my BMs paid different amounts for the same dress, it was absolutely over-priced, particularly considering the low quality, and one of my BMs had to order her dress from another state. They don't do store-to-store transfers so she had to buy it and pay $15 just for non-expedited shipping. When she got it, the dress was torn in the back and had a stain, and yet her local store wouldn't let her return it. The one item I liked was a fingertip veil but it was $175. Ridiculous! I found it on eBay brand new at a bridal shop in Spokane and paid $19, including shipping. Shop around, ladies!"

"Shore Acres Botanical Gardens was an incredibly beautiful place for a wedding. The weather was perfect, warm and sunny but not too hot, and I would recommend a July wedding for this location since the rains usually slow up considerably in June and the roses were still in full bloom. We also rented the little guest house on sight so we had a place for the bridal party to get ready. Because it's a state park, the price was bargain basement at $300 for the entire day. We paid a bit extra because we had over 50 guests (unlike some places that simply don't allow more than 50 people, you can pay $2 more per person). There are multiple sites available within Shore Acres but we were free to roam anywhere after the ceremony for photos with the roses, on a bluff overlooking the ocean, in front of the huge koi pond, and along the beautiful pathways through the gardens. We couldn't have picked a more perfect place."

"Sunset Bay State Park was a natural choice for the reception, both for its beauty and access to the ocean and for its proximity to Shore Acres (about 2 miles). We rented the gazebo, again for the entire day, which included picnic table seating for all 65 guests. The cost? Only $30. We had our 12 nephs and nieces running around and playing in the creek and in the grass and they loved it. Plus, we had some guests who'd never been to the Oregon coast so it was very special to be able to share it with them for the first time."

"My mom and sister and her family ended up staying here and it was definitely over priced for a budget motel. The rooms smelled like urine and didn't feel very clean. I wouldn't recommend it."

"A few guests chose Red Lion Coos Bay. The rooms were nice and clean but it was very spendy and really didn't have any special amenities to justify the price. None of them said they would stay there again."

Wedding Dress Vendor:

Bride's Corner

Charleston, OR, USA

"I bought an original Maggie Sottero gown from Connie, the owner of this bridal shop in Cottage Grove, Oregon. I'd tried on almost 20 gowns from other shops, including David's Bridal, and none of them fit well at all. As soon as I slipped my dress on, I knew it was The One! Connie was fantastic. She let me make payments and still gave me a discount for paying cash instead of having to pay the whole amount up front on a credit card. Because I was ordering my dress last minute, she called the manufacturer to make sure it would arrive in time. It came 2 weeks before the wedding and I was able to get it altered right away. Connie works almost exclusively with a seamstress in Springfield who works from her house. I would definitely recommend taking your dress to her for any alterations."
