Bristol   |   September, 2008   |   Attraction

"This is a great walk to do anytime of the day if you want to see how the other half lived. This walk goes along many of the mansion properties that were owned by the early socialites of the late 19th and early 20th century - the Astors, Vanderbilts, et al. If the weather cooperates, this can be a great place to relax and get some great views of the Atlantic Ocean. You can park on Memorial Blvd. which is metered. For those who are not up for a walk, but still would like to view the great history of this area, there are many guided tours (either self or with a guide) available. We have included these links to help your search. http://www.newportmansions.org/page3554.cfm http://www.newportchamber.com/ Fpr those who do not want to go for a walk, you can take a scenic drive down Bellevue Avenue to Ocean Drive."

"Arrayed along bluffs and seawalls a dozen yards or so above the Atlantic, the Cliff Walk provides gorgeous views of water, waves and rocks--and an occasional glimpse of a few of Newport's seaside monuments to the Gilded Age: the Breakers, Rosecliff, Beechwood, Marble House. Mansion views and entrances will often be obscured by fences or shrubbery, so use Bellevue Avenue and adjacent streets to make your mansion visits."
