Once an extremely popular beach town in the 1960's that fell into disrepair after race riots in 1970, Asbury is finally being revived. The remodeled downtown area has some great restaurants, cafes, bars, and art galleries, and it's the only close area with any gay scene whatsoever. It's beginning to remind me of the Short North in Columbus. It's also the famous birthplace of Bruce Springsteen, who you can still bump into in local bars/music clubs, and is home to the famous Stone Pony bar/club.
