"A highly interesting and historical destination, ESP is well worth the visit. ESP was built by the Quakers in 1829, and was a functioning prison until 1971. One part you won't want to miss -- gangster Al Capone's old cell!"

"An architectural marvel at the time that it was built, Eastern State Penitentiary started the model of solitary confinement in the prison system and housed such villains as Al Capone."

"Check out the scariest fall attraction in the area. Eastern State Penitentiary is an 11-acre abandoned prison. It stands today in ruin, a lost world of crumbling cellblocks and empty guard towers. This gothic structure, with stark towers and soaring fortress walls, is eerie enough during the day. At night, the cellblocks fall into darkness, and the building becomes truly terrifying. There have been dozens of reported ghost sightings at Eastern State Penitentiary. The penitentiary has been featured on The Travel Channel's Most Haunted Live, Fox Television's World's Scariest Places, TLC's America's Ghost Hunters, and MTV's FEAR. Thursday-Sunday from October 16 through November 2, 7 till 11 pm Tickets: $25 on Friday and Sunday nights Eastern State Penitentiary 2124 Fairmount Ave. Philadelphia , PA 19130 215-236-3300"

Philadelphia Wedding In October
Philadelphia   |   October, 2007   |   Attraction

"Eastern State was built in 1829 and is held as the world's first true penitentiary. Notable inmates include Al Capone and Willie Sutton (the 11th person to be added to the FBI's 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list). "The facility has been kept in 'preserved ruin,' meaning that no significant attempts have been made for renovations or upkeep. Guests are asked to sign a liability waiver due to some minor safety concerns.""
