"The ceremony was going to be held here we are now trying to hold it on the beach in the front of our beach house. This is now our back up :) The Fort Fisher State Recreation Site, at the southern end of the Island, includes over 4 miles of beautiful undeveloped beach and marshes between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic. Shell-seekers, bird watchers, and anglers find seclusion here and can view some of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. The Fort Fisher State Recreation Site is a haven for endangered loggerhead sea turtles who build their nesting sites here each year. Bluefish, puppy drum, mullet, spot and flounder are plentiful here. You can four wheel on the beach and launch your boat at the public ramp or kayak and sail board in the expanse of shallows at the Island’s southern point. "Fort Fisher, the third most visited historical site in North Carolina, was the largest sand and earth fortification of the Confederacy. Its job was to protect blockade runners en route to Wilmington, NC with supplies for the Confederacy and it was the fall of this Fort in 1865 that opened the way for the Union victory. The Fort Fisher State Historic Site includes a fascinating Civil War Museum, the remains of the fortifications and a smaller museum called, “Hidden Beneath the Waves”, an underwater archaeology exhibit on local shipwreck dive sites and Cape Fear maritime history (910-458-9042). "Beautiful and only $35 for a permit"

"We didn’t realize we hadn’t applied for our permit for the ceremony until about 2 months before the wedding; it was something that slipped thru the cracks. Because they only allow one ceremony at a time on the beach, and there was a wedding scheduled the hour before our wedding, there was a strong possibility we would be denied our permit. I called them and explained the situation to them, and they were able to work something out so we could have the ceremony there. I was so thankful. One thing I liked most about having our ceremony at this location, we were allowed to have chairs, décor, anything we wanted. Most beaches in the area don’t allow any of that, as it can interfere with emergency vehicles going down the beach. So I liked that we could have these items at this location."

"This was an easy and oh so beautiful place to have our ceremony. The north gazebo feels more private than some of the other areas, it makes for a really lovely wedding site, at either the north gazebo or the little beach area right beside it. The staff is helpful & friendly. There was only one small problem, where we had paid twice, but they readily fixed that. Would definitely recommend this place to all!"
