Atlanta Wedding In May
Atlanta   |   May, 2011   |   Attraction

"Historic Oakland Cemetery Listed on the National Register of Historic Places Oakland is much more than an outstanding example of a Victorian garden cemetery. It is also a magnificent sculpture garden, botanical garden, flourishing wildlife habitat, public park and picturesque setting for quiet reflection. Georgia's most famous legends are laid to rest in Atlanta's oldest and most scenic cemetery. Visit the gravesite of Gone With The Wind author Margaret Mitchell and golfing great Bobby Jones. Explore the Jewish grounds, as well as the historic African American section. Wander through the final resting place of nearly 7,000 Civil War soldiers. The Cemetery is open 365 days a year from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The gates are now being locked at 8:00 p.m."

"Atlanta's historic cemetery. Margaret Mitchell's resting place. Visit during the day."

Mary and Josh's Wedding
Dunwoody   |   November, 2007   |   Attractions

"Mary recommends Oakland as a great place to go if you're up for an attraction of a different kind ... See the beautiful, intriguing monuments and gardens and quirky history that give Oakland its distinctive character. Golf great Bobby Jones and *Gone With the Wind* author Margaret Mitchell are buried here, as well as Atlanta mayors, Georgia governors, Civil War generals, and more. Oakland is essentially an outdoor museum of Atlanta’s history. Walking tours every Saturday evening. When you're done, hit "Six Feet Under," a friendly tavern across the street, for some great seafood - their fried seafood baskets and fish tacos get a big thumbs-up from Mary. Oakland walking tour guests get a big discount on their meal when they show their badge/sticker to the server."
