The observatory is a popular tourist attraction that features an extensive array of space- and science-related displays. The Observatory is located on the southern slope of Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park, just above the Los Feliz neighborhood. It is 1,134 feet above sea level and it commands a view of the Los Angeles Basin, including downtown Los Angeles to the southeast, Hollywood to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the southwest.

Welcome to Griffith Observatory, a beloved icon of Los Angeles and world leader in public astronomy. Since 1935, the Observatory has given tens of millions of visitors the opportunity to become observers. Griffith Observatory offers exciting shows in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium, public telescopes, and observing and astronomy exhibits. Visiting the Observatory Tuesday-Sunday (closed Mondays) Those wishing to visit Griffith Observatory may drive up to the Observatory and park in the parking lot or on the adjacent roads. Advance reservations are not needed to visit. Weekend Public Bus Service The LADOT Observatory Shuttle operates every Saturday and Sunday, except holidays, between 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. from the Vermont/Sunset Metro Red Line station to the Observatory.
